The Irish Times was a decent newspaper many years ago. Now, it is an ideological rag of the worst imaginable kind. It seems to attempt to out-liberal everyone else.

The scenario that is emerging is extremely discomfiting. Saudi military are little more than a laughing-stock, struggling already in Yemen, but combined with Turkey this would be an invasion that might compel the Russians to resort to nuclear options. Since Russia, under International Law, has a legitimate presence in Syria, having been invited in by the lawful, elected government, such usage would be justified in self-defence against such unlawful invasion, in my opinion. The citizens of the West will be in the horrendous position of being on the immoral, aggressive side of a cataclysmic war against a Christian power. May the Lord God deliver us from such a pass.

Russian operation in Syria is our salvation' – top Syrian Catholic bishop:

The majority of Syrian people support Moscow's anti-terror campaign, the top Catholic bishop in Syria said in an interview with RT, adding that it's not only military assistance, but the promotion of peace process by Russia that they pin their hopes on.

"We see Russia's military operation as a real effort to fight terrorism. What is especially important is that this military campaign goes in parallel with promotion of peace process," Most Reverend Georges Abou Khazen, Apostolic Vicar of Aleppo for the Latins who was appointed by Pope Francis in 2013, told RT in a telephone interview. "We really hope that the peace process will soon prevail over fighting all across Syria," the bishop added.

"The majority of Syrian people" of all backgrounds and faith "regard Russian military campaign as salvation, a way out of the state we've been enduring for five years," the Catholic bishop said, adding that "Syrians are very positive about it."

"Russia's actions are not limited to the military operation. Russia makes a very positive impact by stimulating the negotiations process, and promotes dialogue between various Syrian groups," Bisoph Abou Khazen said.

Syrian minorities have been especially suffering from the conflict, the bishop told RT. Noting that there are over 20 religious and ethnic groups in the Syrian society, the Aleppo vicar said that before the conflict they've all lived in harmony. "Our pre-war society was like a beautiful multicolored mosaic. But unfortunately, it has been destroyed," he said.

Describing the harsh conditions that his congregation and other Syrians have been living in, the vicar said that there is no electricity in Aleppo and water supplies have been disrupted. ". The lack of water is what has really made our lives harder," he said, adding that people have been living without water supplies for over a month now.

First time ever: American made TOW used on Russian-supplied Syrian Army T-90 battle tank

A video published online by a Syrian terrorist group shows what appears to be a direct hit by a US-made BGM-71 TOW on the turret of a Russia-supplied T-90 tank of the Syrian Army

The video is one of a multitude of instances of the use of TOW missiles by terrorists in Syria, but it may be the first time the anti-tank weapon was used against the advanced T-90 main battle tank

It disgusts me to realize that advanced American-made anti-tank weapons are in the hands of Catholic-killing terrorists in Syria. What a disgrace!!!!

Putin says he likes Communist ideas echoing Bible's but USSR got them wrong

Stavropol, January 26, Interfax - Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that he still likes the ideas of Communism and that he has not ditched his party member ID card.

"I quite liked, and still do, the Communist and Socialist ideas. If we look at the Code of the builder of Communism, which was broadly circulated in the Soviet Union, it is very much like the Bible. It is not a joke, there is in fact a similar passage in the Bible," he told the first inter-regional forum organized by his All-Russia People's Front on Monday.

The Code proclaims very good ideas: equality, brotherhood, happiness, the president said.

"But practical realization of these remarkable ideas in country was far from what utopian Socialists had been setting out. Our country did not resemble Sun City," said the Russian head of state.

Everyone accused the tsarist regime of repressions, but it was from mass repressions that the construction of the Soviet state began, he recalled.

"Unlike many functionaries - and I was not one - from the party point of view, I was a rank and file member, I did not throw away my party ID, I did not burn it," said the president, adding that "the Communist Party of the Soviet Union collapsed, but my ID is lying somewhere there."

  5. Yes, Communism is good for me and not for thee! Sounds like the propaganda of the NWO folks....or how the AC will push his world religion and "we know what is best for you" while only those at the top get the dachas!

It is a mistake to expect the reappearance of communism (the theses) as an antitheses of the religion, its old and biggest adversary. A true understanding of the socialist dialectics should make us expect a synthetizes of the both. Some say that the green is the colour of the new communism.

Religion is only a social/cultural issue for them.
I you put it under the control of the system, it will be ok, or even useful.

I agree. Communism never left. It just repackaged itself, to make it seem acceptable to our society. In the end the synthesis, will try and achieve the same goal: world domination.

"After the Russian Revolution, Communist coups were attempted in Budapest, Munich, and Berlin. The Bavarian Soviet was quickly crushed by German war veterans. Rosa Luxemburg, who had led the Spartacist uprising, and Karl Liebknecth were clubbed and shot to death in Berlin by Freikorps. The Budapest regime of Bela Kun lasted a few months. The workers failed to rally to the revolutions launched in their name.

Trotsky sought to make the Red Army the spear point of revolution. Invading Poland, he was hurled back at the Vistula by Polish patriots under Marshal Pilsudski. Nothing the Marxists had predicted had come to pass. Their hour had come and gone. The workers of the West, the mythical proletariat, had refused to play the role history had assigned them. How could Marx have been so wrong?

Two of Marx’s disciples now advanced an explanation. Yes, Marx had been wrong. Capitalism was not impoverishing the workers. Indeed, their lot was improving, and they had not risen in revolution because their souls had been saturated in two thousand years of Christianity, which blinded them to their true class interests. Unless and until Christianity and Western culture, the immune system of capitalism, were uprooted from the soul of Western Man, Marxism could not take root, and the revolution would be betrayed by the workers in whose name it was to be fought. In biblical terms, the word of Marx, seed of the revolution, had fallen on rock-hard Christian soil and died. Wagering everything on the working class, the Marxists had bet on the wrong horse.

The first dissenting disciple was the Hungarian Georg Lukacs, an agent of the Comintern, whose History and Class Consciousness had brought him recognition as a Marxist theorist to rival Marx himself. “I saw the revolutionary destruction of society as the one and only solution’” said Lukacs. “A worldwide overturning of values cannot take place without the annihilation of the old values and the creation, of new ones by the revolutionaries.” As deputy commissar for culture in Bela Kun’s regime, Lukacs put his self-described “demonic” ideas into action in what came to be known as “cultural terrorism.”

As part of this terrorism he instituted a radical sex education program in Hungarian schools. Children were instructed in free love, sexual intercourse, the archaic nature of middle-class family codes, the outdatedness of monogamy, and the irrelevance of religion, which deprives man of all pleasures. Women, too, were called to rebel against the sexual mores of the time.

Lukac's purpose in promoting licentiousness among women and children was to destroy the family, the core institution of Christianity and Western culture. Five decades after Lukacs fled Hungary, his ideas would be enthusiastically embraced by baby boomers in the “sexual revolution.”

The second disciple was Antonio Gramsci, an Italian Communist who has lately begun to receive deserved recognition as the greatest Marxist strategist of the twentieth century. After Mussolini’s march on Rome in 1922, Gramsci fled to Russia. But unlike the “useful idiots” and “infantile left” of Lenin’s derision, such as American writer Lincoln Steffens—“ I have been over into the future and it works!”— Gramsci was a sharp observer who saw that Bolshevism did not work. Only through terror could the regime compel obedience.

Gramsci concluded that Leninism had failed. The Russian people had not been converted to communism; they loathed it. Their land, faith, families, icons, and Mother Russia all meant far more to the Russian people than any international workers’ solidarity. The Soviets were deluding themselves, Gramsci concluded. The Russian people had not changed. They were obedient only because resistance meant a knock at the door at midnight and a bullet in the back of the neck in the basement of the Lubianka. Even the czar had evoked more love and loyalty than the hated Bolsheviks. Gramsci concluded it was their Christian souls that prevented the Russian people from embracing their Communist revolution. “The civilized world had been thoroughly saturated with Christianity for 2000 years,” Gramsci wrote; and a regime grounded in Judeo-Christian beliefs and values could not be overthrown until those roots were cut. If Christianity was the heat shield of capitalism, then, to capture the West, Marxists must first de-Christianize the West.

Disillusioned, terrified of Stalin, who had seized power on Lenin’s death and who did not relish independent Marxist thinkers, Gramsci went home to lead the Italian Communist party. Mussolini had another idea. He locked Gramsci up and lost the key. Languishing in prison, near death from tuberculosis, Gramsci was finally freed, but died in 1937 at forty-six. But in his Prison Notebooks he left behind the blueprints for a successful Marxist revolution in the West. Our own cultural revolution could have come straight from its pages.

Rather than seize power first and impose a cultural revolution from above, Gramsci argued, Marxists in the West must first change the culture; then power would fall into their laps like ripened fruit. But to change the culture would require a “long march through the institutions”— the arts, cinema, theater, schools, colleges, seminaries, newspapers, magazines, and the new electronic medium, radio. One by one, each had to be captured and converted and politicized into an agency of revolution. Then the people could be slowly educated to understand and even welcome the revolution.

Gramsci urged his fellow Marxists to form popular fronts with Western intellectuals who shared their contempt for Christianity and bourgeois culture and who shaped the minds of the young. Message to the comrades: “It’s the culture, stupid!” Since Western culture had given birth to capitalism and sustained it, if that culture could be subverted, the system would fall of its own weight. On the cover of his 1970 runaway bestseller The Greening of America, the manifesto of the counterculture, author Charles Reich parroted Gramsci perfectly:

"There is a revolution coming. It will not be like revolutions of the past. It will originate with the individual and with culture, and it will change the political structure only as its final act. It will not require violence to succeed, and it cannot be successfully resisted with violence. It is now spreading with amazing rapidity, and already our laws, institutions, and social structure are changing in consequence...This is the revolution of the new generation."

Gramsci’s idea on how to make a revolution in a Western society has been proven correct. Lenin’s regime shook the world for seventy years, but ultimately his revolution failed, and his regime collapsed. In the end, the Communist party of Lenin and Stalin remained what it had been from the beginning, a conspiracy of political criminals who used Marxist ideas and rhetoric to disguise what they were really about: absolute power. Lenin’s regime died detested and unmourned. But the Gramscian revolution rolls on, and, to this day, it continues to make converts.

Richard, if you understand all this in the quote above, why can't you see that just as Mussolini was no different than the socialists and communists, whom you seem to have correctly identified as pure totalitarians under the mere guise of egalitarian idealism, Trump is no better than Hilary or Obama? He would destroy the constitution way faster than Hilary. Hilary at least is trying to seem moderate. Trump is screaming from the rooftops totalitarianism in language so simple, even infantile, it can't be mistaken. Cruz is a conservative in the American sense, one who believes the government should not bulldoze the constitution.

If you are seriously implying that Donald Trump is a totalitarian, then you obviously don't know what true totalitarianism is and you offend everyone who ever suffered under a true totalitarian system. And when you say that Hillary is moderate compared to Trump, you lose all credibility here. There is nothing moderate about an unrepentant pro-deather like Hillary Clinton.

As for Ted Cruz being a "true conservative" I'm sorry that you believe that. If Ted Cruz is anything he is a true politician and a true fraudster, as evidenced by his dirty tactics against Ben Carson in Iowa. Cruz should have been disqualified right then and there. There is nothing more "totalitarian" than using dirty tactics to try and sway a vote.

I was also listening to the AIPAC speeches yesterday and not even a minute into Ted Cruz's speech he was attacking Trump. Trump kept his speech about the topic at hand: Israel. Cruz turned his speech into a cheap campaign ad.

But this thread is about Russia, not Donald Trump, so if you wish to start a thread laying out the case that Donald Trump is a Totalitarian please open a new thread on that subject. In the meantime, I'll tell you who the true Totalitarians are: Barack Obama, the Democrat Party, and the Neocons.

I will not, and you just made the argument for me, it needs no back up. Trump has done nothing but scapegoat and attack others rather than speak to an issue, that is how he got where he is. When he is in a corner, he makes personal attacks and bullies. You will not do that to me. Unfortunately, you confirm my opinion of Trump. Saying "I'm pro Israel Day one" after he refused to before, conveniently at a talk specifically to a pro Israeli group, does not an intelligent policy make. It is more of the same.

  14. Well, dealing with the facts and without the offering of any pure saintly contenders for the Presidency, Trump has been the most realistic and on target when it comes to the now reality of terrorist control within the West. He predicted more attacks in Paris and Brussels and today, there are still those who are actually surprised at what should have been logically expected??

Unfortunately for the very bright Mr. Cruz, who should be the best expert on the Constitution, he conveniently dismisses the real definition of "Natural Born Citizen" eligibility for the Presidency which precedent in the Supreme Court called for "parents (plural) both of which are American citizens at the time of birth of the child". That is why the founders designated a difference between "natural born" and say, naturalized, etc. And that is why they made an exception for themselves only. And this was due to their understanding of what dual citizenship could mean for loyalty to and understanding of the country after what they had just experienced. Any new exception to what the founders intended would have to be made via an amendment.

Great news. Thank God. The downside is that the UN will most likely resettled the fleeing ISIS fighters in Europe as refugees.

This is just a small sampling of the terror unleashed in Ukraine thanks to Obama, Nuland, McCain and the rest of the Neocons. Now you know why Putin was welcomed in Crimea:

  19. Ah yes that repenting regime....and you can't get more explicit when referring to the Red Dragon machine of Communism...."Satan 2":

Russia is preparing to test-fire a nuclear weapon which is so powerful it could reportedly destroy a whole country in seconds.

The "Satan 2" missile is rumoured to be the most powerful ever designed and is equipped with stealth technology to help it dodge enemy radar systems .

This terrifying doomsday weapon is likely to strike fear into the hearts of Western military chiefs, as current missile defence technology is totally incapable of stopping it.

    ........
The missile is expected to be capable of delivering up to a dozen warheads, allowing to effectively destroy an area the "size of Texas or France", the broadcaster continued.

It is expected to have a range of 10,000 km, allowing Moscow to attack European cities including London as well as major cities on America's west and east coasts.

And don't dare be a "baddy" and even think about any missile defense system. That would, after all, provoke the snake...besides, while playing here and elsewhere in the West, Mr. Putin has been improving his weapon systems and positioning on subs. While we have yet another General stating that if there is even one more little hot spot in the world our military will not be able to reply. Them's the reality. The other is simply fantasy about the KGB Putin comfortable, still, for ordering murders and assassinations. Only when China challenges him big time in the future would he possibly cry uncle. As for now he'll proceed with all the advantages of no challenges from the West. Yes, the prophesied world Communism with nations being annihilated.

MADness returns. Nevertheless, the US is still the only country to have deployed nuclear weapons in war. And if you think Russia continues to be the source of Communism and its errors you need to wake up and smell the coffee. Abortion, sale of aborted foetal body-parts, sodomy marriage, glorification of tran-sexuals and every kind of pervert, sexual perversity in schools, suppression of Christianity, importation of Jihad, bankster robbery, unprecedented transfer of wealth from the people to the 'super-rich' elites (=nomenklatura), insanity and untruth in the academies, 'pravda' and lies almost universal in the mainstream media, widespread apostasy and decline in faith. These are the errors of Russia spread to the West, now home-grown, but unlike the USSR where they were enforced at gunpoint, here they are gleefully and voluntarily embraced. The beam is in our own eye. If nuclear cataclysm occurs I am confident it will be due at least equally to our own arrogance and stupidity as to that of Russia and it may well be no different to God's using the Romans to sack a corrupt Jerusalem.

It would be better if the US in its current moral mess refrained from foreign intervention. Since Roe vs Wade it has failed to win a war (if you discount Grenada) but has created several failed states leading to chaos and slaughter of the most innocent. The present conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya, Syria and Ukraine are due, directly or indirectly, to American intervention in particular. Putin has engaged, up to now at least, only in the traditional Russian czarist fashion of intervening in his own sphere of influence. It is China, with your referenced terrifying doomsday weapon, which most seems to be moving towards a globally aggressive stance.

If the West is so pure, why is Our Lady appearing all over the place, admonishing and warning the hell out of us?
