Thinking about this afterwards, there would be no way of knowing their motives but as long as the intention was to ordain the man to the priesthood and as long as the seminarian wanted to be a priest, then I think the ordination would be valid. Considering that in Church history even the papacy has been sold, there must have been instances of ordination with dishonourable motives. Schismatic groups have been reunited with the Church without having to re-do ordinations.

Our local news station has been running quite a few pieces regarding the Puget Sound area earthquake dangers and preparedness for a large devastating event. In the past it was commonly said to have three days food on hand. Now, they have upgraded this to 14 days as well as having cash on hand because of the power outages and downed ATM's that will possibly last for long periods of time as well. On Monday they are running a full day of coverage specifically regarding this threat.

The largest disaster preparedness drill in US history was run last year here in Washington state for this very reason.

I think that the powers that be are well aware of what is heading our way soon. Yes, they are talking about it in a round about way. This is a good thing. However, when the three days of darkness also comes how many will be ill prepared and even have no idea of what to do.

These are hair raising questions indeed. It is my understanding that if the seminarian intends what the Church intends--to become a validly ordained priest then if the proper rite is performed in spite of his sin he is ordained. He has committed sacrilege but he is still ordained. A couple getting married in the church can be in mortal sin but still intend what the church intends and receive the Sacrament and be validly married. They have committed sacrilege and endangered their souls but they are sacramentally married.

I would agree, AED. How many of the thousands of co-cohabiting couples seeking a sacramental marriage each year actually abstain from the marriage act during their engagement?:(

At least it's better they get married. They will hopefully repent.

I have two daughters and we have not seen any of Disney's films in years and years. They have a very clear agenda driving their films and it has ruined them for us.

I worked in high tech fields for a long time and now that I am no longer working I rarely take my phone anywhere with me. After 30 years of being tethered to a leash for corporate America .. NO THANKS!

  9. Hmmmm....."ghost species". Or is this another discovery related to scripture's own "mixing" of those angels who had been thrown down with the daughters of man, related to the "giants" or nephilim and on down? On Drudge today:

Ancient humans had sex with non humans

.....This other species is referred to by the scientific community as a "ghost species" as there are no known fossils that can be analysed.

  10. Erdogan urges all Muslims to 'visit' and 'protect' Jerusalem
    ....
"From here I make a call to all Muslims. Anyone who has the opportunity should visit Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa mosque," Erdogan said in Ankara. "Come, let's all protect Jerusalem."

He was referring to the site, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, which is central to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/af...an-urges-Muslims-visit-protect-Jerusalem.html

But I have my doubts if it's just to "protect" Jerusalem! Another sign of the time for evil to conquer is getting shorter and shorter.

I used to take all this 'science' seriously. Now that the Theory of Evolution is dead in the water and that it is being increasingly demonstrated that much Geology is based on unverified assumptions and circular thinking, I take all this kind of guff with a large grain of salt.

Have to use google translate but it is worth watching the foreign news sites. The OIC is the ME version of the UN and is quite powerful in the world of Islam. It was created after the collapse of the Ottoman empire.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is the honor of 1.7 billion Muslims, not just the Palestinians, and that the Muslim world can not wait to remain indifferent to the restrictions on the maximum.

Erdogan made the remarks at a press conference at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport ahead of his departure for Saudi Arabia, starting with a two-day Gulf tour that also includes Kuwait and Qatar.

"Turkey has expressed its strong and public resentment and condemnation of the Israeli restrictions imposed on al-Aqsa," Erdogan said, referring to his country's continuing efforts to establish peace in the region and to support the rights and cause of "our Palestinian brothers and their just struggle for freedom."

"As the periodic president of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), I again call on Israel to act in accordance with humanitarian law and values," Erdogan said, stressing that Israel should move away from what would escalate tension in the region.

Erdogan stressed that his country is making intensive efforts to end the tension in Jerusalem, so as to restore calm again to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

As for the Gulf crisis, Erdogan said: "Turkey is sorry about the recent developments in the Gulf, and Muslims today more than ever need to unite and lined up. Unfortunately, the tragedies in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Palestine are increasing day by day. "He said.

On June 5, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain severed relations with Qatar on the grounds of "supporting terrorism," which Doha denied, saying it faced a "campaign of fabrications and lies

Air strikes, shelling strain Moscow-backed Damascus truce
    3 Min Read

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Air strikes killed at least nine people in the Eastern Ghouta area near Damascus overnight and insurgent shelling from the rebel-held area landed near the Russian embassy on Tuesday, a war monitor reported.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the deaths in the air strikes in the Eastern Ghouta town of Arbin marked the first civilian casualties since a Russian-backed truce in the area came into effect. The Syrian military declared a cessation of hostilities there on Saturday.

But Russia, a military ally of President Bashar al-Assad, dismissed reports of air strikes in the area as "an absolute lie" meant to discredit Moscow's peacemaking efforts.

"During working contacts with representatives of opposition groups in Eastern Ghouta it was confirmed that no military actions had been conducted in this de-escalation zone, there had been no air strikes," the Russian defence ministry spokesman said in a statement on Tuesday.

Russia said on Monday it had deployed military police in Eastern Ghouta to try to enforce a de-escalation zone it said it had agreed with the Syrian opposition there.

In a second statement, issued late on Tuesday, the Russian Defence Ministry said it had delivered 10 tons of food and medical supplies to Eastern Ghouta, and evacuated sick and injured civilians from opposition-held areas.

Tuesday's shelling near the Russian embassy marked the first time rebels had hit government-held areas of central Damascus since the truce began.

The Observatory said the overnight air strikes wounded 30 people in Eastern Ghouta while another four were injured by further air strikes that targeted the area on Tuesday morning.

The Civil Defence for rural Damascus, a rescue service operating in the area, said the dead included five children and two women.

In a statement on its Facebook page, it put the number of wounded and missing at 50. The air strikes hit the area at 11 p.m. (2000 GMT), it said.

There was no immediate comment from the Syrian military on the report, and no mention of air strikes by state media.

Witnesses said three mortar shells landed in the neighbourhood where the Russian embassy is located in northeastern Damascus. There were no reports of casualties.

The Syrian army, with military support from Russia and Iran, has dealt the opposition a string of defeats around the capital over the last year, seizing back control of areas including Daraya and Moadamiya.

China preparing for potential crisis with North Korea - report

(Reuters) - China is preparing for a potential crisis with North Korea by increasing its defences along their shared border, including establishing a new border brigade and building bunkers for civilians, the Wall Street Journal reported.

China has been strengthening its defences along the North Korean border since Pyongyang's first nuclear test in 2006, including building a fence along parts of the border and stepping up patrols.

China has also realigned military forces in the country's northeast, the report added, citing Chinese military and government websites and Chinese and foreign experts.

The Chinese government has repeatedly said there can be no military solution for the North Korea issue.

China is in the midst of a broad military reorganisation and modernisation programme.

On Monday, Chinese Defence Ministry spokesman Wu Qian told reporters he could not answer a "hypothetical" question on what China's military would do in the event of a clash on the Korean peninsula.

China has long worried about its porous borders and potential for war or unrest to spill over into China, and had stepped up border defences in other troublesome areas, such as with Myanmar and Central Asian nations.

U.S. says progress with China on North Korea U.N. sanctions, true test is Russia

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley directs comments to the Russian delegation at the conclusion of a U.N. Security Council meeting to discuss the recent ballistic missile launch by North Korea at U.N. headquarters in New York, U.S., July 5, 2017.Mike Segar/Files
UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United States is making progress in talks with North Korean ally China on imposing new United Nations sanctions on Pyongyang over its latest missile test, but Russia's engagement will be the "true test," U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley said on Tuesday.

The United States gave China a draft resolution nearly three weeks ago to impose stronger sanctions on North Korea over the July 4 missile launch. Haley had been aiming for a vote by the 15-member Security Council within weeks, senior diplomats said.

"We're constantly in touch with China ... Things are moving but it's still too early to tell how far they'll move," Haley told reporters, adding that she was pleased with China's initial response to the U.S. proposal because it showed "seriousness."

"We know that China's been sharing and negotiating with Russia, so as long as they are doing that, we're going to continue to watch this closely to make sure it is a strong resolution," she said.

China's U.N. Ambassador Liu Jieyi told reporters: "We are making progress, it requires time, but we're working very hard."

Traditionally, the United States and China have negotiated sanctions on North Korea before formally involving other council members, though diplomats said Washington informally keeps Britain and France in the loop. Along with Russia, those five countries are veto-wielding Security Council members.

"The true test will be what (the Chinese) have worked out with Russia (and whether) Russia comes and tries to pull out of that," said Haley.

The United States and Russia have waged rival campaigns at the Security Council over the type of ballistic missile fired by North Korea. Western powers have said it was an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), while Russia said the missile fired was only medium-range.

Diplomats say China and Russia only view a long-range missile test or nuclear weapon test as a trigger for further possible U.N. sanctions.

"Everyone that we have dealt with acknowledges that it's an ICBM. Whether they are willing to put it in writing or not is going to be the real question," Haley said.

North Korea has been under U.N. sanctions since 2006 over its ballistic missile and nuclear programmes and the Security Council has ratcheted up the measures in response to five nuclear weapons tests and two long-range missile launches.

President Donald Trump's administration has been frustrated that China has not done more to rein in North Korea and senior officials have said Washington could impose new sanctions on Chinese firms doing business with Pyongyang.

When asked how long Washington was willing to negotiate with China at the United Nations before deciding to impose its own secondary sanctions, Haley said: "We're making progress ... We're going to see what the situation is."

"We want China and every other country to see it as serious and we're going to keep moving forward that way," she said.

China's Ambassador to Washington Cui Tiankai said on Tuesday that Beijing objected to secondary sanctions. In June, the United States blacklisted two Chinese citizens and a shipping company for helping North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.

"Such actions are unacceptable. They have severely impaired China-U.S. cooperation on the Korean nuclear issue, and give rise to more questions about the true intention of the U.S.," he told the Institute for China-America Studies in Washington.

With 3,000 cases, Tamil Nadu records 32-fold jump in H1N1 in 6 months
Across the country, till July 16, H1N1 affected 13,188 people and caused 632 deaths as against 1,786 infections and 265 deaths in the whole of last year.

CHENNAI: The fogging machines may have turned to fight dengue, but the state hasn't fully washed its hands of another virus. Since January, Tamil Nadu recorded close to 3,000 cases of H1N1influenza virus - the highest in the country.

This is a 32-fold jump from last year, when 122 people reported with the infection.

Across the country, till July 16, H1N1 affected 13,188 people and caused 632 deaths as against 1,786 infections and 265 deaths in the whole of last year.

According to data from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, although Tamil Nadu topped in case detection, mortality was highest in Maharashtra, which saw around 300 deaths and 2,738 infections. This was followed by Gujarat, Kerala and Rajasthan. In Tamil Nadu,15 people died of flu-related complications.

Director of Public Health K Kulandaisamy said the influenza outbreak had been brought under control in the state. "Most of these cases were reported from February to April, during the cooler months. Now we see only around five to six flu cases a month," he said, attributing the drop to sanitation campaigns and weather change. Coimbatore, Chennai and Tirunelveli accounted for the highest counted for the highest share of infections.

The H1N1 virus causes infection in the nose, throat, and lungs, and is spread when someone touches things with the contagion on it. The last time the state saw a spurt was in 2015, when close to 900 people tested positive for the virus, leading to 29 deaths.

Doctors say the burden of the disease might be even higher than the surveillance programme estimates since not all patients with symptoms of H1N1are tested.

In an effort to check a possible resurgence of the infection, public health officials are working on a mechanism to include influenza-like syndrome in their routine surveillance."In our surveillance we usually look for only five symptoms that have the potential to be an epidemic-prone infection. This doesn't include respiratory distress," said Kulandaisamy . He said most doctors look specifically for H1N1 when they receive a patient with symptoms of flu. "They just rule out or confirm H1N1and don't diagnose what other type of influenza the person has," he said. This season, doctors treating patients with H1N1 had observed a change in symptoms: some patients who showed typical signs of H1N1 did not test positive when the laboratory investigations were done, while those who had no telling symptoms tested positive.

Experts say the numbers could have catapulted this year across the country because of two factors: antigenic drift and the spread of a different strain (sub-type of virus) of H1N1 virus. Antigenic drift are small changes in the genes of influenza viruses that happen continually over time as the virus replicates.

"These small genetic changes usually produce viruses that are closely related to one another. An immune system exposed to a similar virus usually recognises it and responds," explained infectious disease specialist Dr Dilip Mathai. However, these small genetic changes can accumulate over time and result in viruses that are antigenically different. When this happens, the body's immune system may not recognise those viruses. "Every viral infection happens in a cyclic pattern. We see a chikungunya outbreak once in 40 years, measles, once in five years. H1N1 is relatively new. We are still learning," he said.

  17. With everything else these brilliant scientists understand they don't seem to comprehend the point of the beginning of a real human life. Suppose maybe it's because embryos don't as yet fit into the look of Barbie and Ken at this stage so some may be expendable for larger purposes!

First Human Embryos Edited in U.S.

.....Now Mitalipov is believed to have broken new ground both in the number of embryos experimented upon and by demonstrating that it is possible to safely and efficiently correct defective genes that cause inherited diseases.

Although none of the embryos were allowed to develop for more than a few days—and there was never any intention of implanting them into a womb—the experiments are a milestone on what may prove to be an inevitable journey toward the birth of the first genetically modified humans.
