The difference is isis is not a government or political movement. It is a religion that wants world domination. They want world domination for a religious world order. With the basic principle of either you join or you die. They cannot accept any treaties or peace plans because it is against the koran itself. So, there is no way to appease isis. In the final days the gates of hell will open and demons will be looking for bodies to enter. (So dramatic). But maybe isis is the main army of evil. I don't have the answer to your question, but I do know that we are not in the time of the past Crusades (unless it is a rosary Crusade), and a WW3 could literally destroy the planet (many prophecies have this taking place). And we are not in the same conditions as WW2 where there was clearly a good vs. evil well defined and there was yet good countries and leaders in the late 30's and early 40's. Neither can be said for our sad world today. I am far from being a pacifist, but we are in different times then any before us. Perhaps this is why heaven is forever repeating to fast, pray and live in the Divine Will. Heaven is continually telling us that those in grace doing the will of God will be protected (however, not the lack of suffering). I could never see my sons fighting for the Obama army as he is a most immoral, unconscience, self absorbed leader ever in the US. He could care less for any of the servicemen and he would put them in harms way if it benefited him. So who we going to fight for and for what end? Like I said, before in a previous thread, when the Great Catholic Monarch arises, it will be only his army that I could support in our times.

Funny, the Pope has already declared the enemy. And he states it comes directly from "the created one". Not only that, the Vatican has declared two wars. Humanism which can be battled with prayer and fasting. But the vatican has already declared isis as the second war. The vatican understands EVIL needs to be stopped with armed forces. Honestly I have been struggling with this isis situation, here we have an army that seems to have come from the depth of hell, fully incarnated by demons, but these people are human beings. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the directors of this world of darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in high places." Don't you think we are feeding these demons if we instead of praying and fasting for these people are wishing them death and resenting them? Instead of feeling a little compassion for them as they clearly seem to be totally possessed by evil. To me abortion is the worst crime, yet if you repent God will forgive you. What I want to say here is that evil feeds off evil, all sins we commit are connected somehow, for instance like a giant pool where demons are filled with power, sadly this pool is already overflowing, and we are contributing day by day each time we sin. Isis, abortions, violence etc, are the results of our sins. We are not in the middle east, thanks God we are not suffering at the moment,but our time to suffer will come and we will act according to Gods will. Some will be prepared to be martyrs and some will fight all for the glory of God. Yes there is a time for everything, now our time is a time of praying for all , this way we will make sure we are not feeding these demos so easily.

ISIS is easily and clearly declared evil. They must be stopped. Of course we can't forget the covert Israel/US/Turkey/SA completely boneheaded missteps in helping to fund, train and arm them. It's a gong show at best. Now we are fighting against radicals using arms, military vehicles and $$$ provided by western allies. In fact they continue to support supposedly "moderate" radicals in hopes of overthrowing Assad. What a joke. US gov't "I realize our infastructure is crumbling, medicare and pension future costs are beyond the ability to fund, 50 million are on food stamps, etc. etc but here is 500 million dollars for Syrian rebels.
