@HeavenlyHosts remember how you said to be careful with these local floods? Tonight I was bringing home a great barn find, a pristine Bensen gyroplane that I got for pennies on the dollar. It’s been raining heavy for several days and it was pitch black, raining cats and dogs and visibility was horrendous. I was taking the back roads because I was towing this gyroplane with its rotor on an open trailer, so I had to keep my speed down. I couldn’t see the road as I came down a hill. At the bottom of the hill a tiny creek goes under the road. But the rain was so heavy the road was a raging flood and I was already half way into it when I realized it wasn’t just a puddle on the road and my car stalled out. Logs started piling up on the passenger side of the car. Fortunately I called 911 and emergency services were there in minutes. Two young whipper snappers in full rescue gear gingerly worked their way out to my car, and handed me a life vest through the window. They had me put it on inside the car, then helped me shuffle through raging water up to my car door sill to the roadway on the far side. The tow truck is towed out my car right and friends here towed my gyroplane the rest of the way home.. My Crown Vic might be totaled due to water locking the engine, not sure yet. I’ll know more in the morning. Right now I have to call my car insurance then try to get a good night’s rest.
Whew, what a harrowing experience you had! Glad to hear you got the arrival of the rescuers to help you to safety and that you're okay!
The emergency response personnel had never seen a gyroplane before, let alone in the middle of a flash flood.
Holy smokes that's an experience that not all get to tell tale of. Glad you are safe and hope the car isn't a write off. Unreal.
Unfortunately the insurance rep said it’s probably totaled. (I was so exhausted last night I literally fell asleep typing.)
Brian i have been worried about you in these floods. Thanks be to God you are all right. I am sorry to hear about your car. I'm praying this morning that it is not totaled or that if it is your insurance company comes through for you.
Glad I kept up full coverage on my car insurance. I guess the gamble paid off. I had an intuition I’d need it.
Wow what a close call! The flooding was frightening. Thank goodness you're okay. I hope the insurance comes through for your car.
Thanks. I talked to a retired emergency services worker. I think he thought I didn’t quite grasp just how serious my situation was. He said: I worked swift water rescue for 21 years during my career. What you were in there was exceedingly dangerous.
Well thank God you made it Brian! You certainly do get your Crosses But at least you are in one piece. Prayers.
