Had the closure of Mount Melleray been discussed here. Without scrolling back I don't think it was. A very famous monestory in Ireland is to close in the next few days. An IPAS centre is to be established there. This is a perfect example of Catholicism being ousted as the prime religion of the country with Islam taking its place . Why put an IPAS centre here but to send a clear message?
A mass immigration centre. Yes this is terrible news, the greatest monastery in Ireland for the 19th and 20th centuries now probably handed over to Islam, because most of those migrants tend to be of that faith.

Not at the Abbey, no. The apparitions were at a grotto about a mile away and had nothing to do with the Abbey. My grand uncle was a monk there and my uncle went to boarding school there. But the monks have gradually moved away from tradition and there was some scandal involving the abbot a few years back which was not appropriately dealt with. I believe this is why God is allowing what's now happening. I don't think it's true about it becoming a direct provision center. A nearby hotel, The Pilgrim's Rest, was turned into one though so maybe there's been some crossed wires.
I don't think this is quite accurate. The hotel next to the Abbey was sold recently and is to be used as a direct provision center. The future of the Abbey has not yet been decided and the monks are gone initially for 1-2 years only. There is still hope.
Having just asked a friend who is close to the Abbey, its seems there's talk of migrants being placed in part of the old school building on the grounds of the abbey, which had been used by the Boy Scouts up to recently, but definitely not the Abbey itself, where the monks lived.
I spent many a private retreat there back in the day. It was a lovely place of silence and prayer, very basic accommodation though but people were tougher back then!
