Always laughing, always smiling, always happy. But she suffered the most terrible migraine headaches. If you look more closely at the photos you can tell that while smiling she is in agony. It reminds me of some of the pics of St Therese of Liseaux. Look at her eyes. Great suffering. This is the last song she is ever recorded singing; it is called, 'I prefer Heaven'.
I love Sister Clare. A man gave me a a photo postcard of her when I visited Melleray a few years ago. I had to Google her to find out her story. Very inspiring. I watched the film of her life on YouTube eventually. I think she has brought great blessings and vocations to the Home of the Mother order.
One big takeaway from the life of Clare Crockett is this: When she started out on her journey she was totally irreligious like I suppose most young Catholics these days. Nor were her family. The only way she could enter the door was a totally radical conversion to Christ. So her's is a story of grace. God, like a Great Big football player reached down from heaven, picked her up in His arms and ran with her across the final line. There is so much hope in this for all young people and for us all. That hope is Grace; it's all about grace and how we respond to it.
This was posted on a Facebook page about Sister Clare Crockett, earlier today. A link to an album of 21 songs which Sr. Clare recorded with another nun, Sr. Kelly Pezo. It's sung in Spanish and called 'Prefiero el Paraiso' (I Prefer Paradise). I just listened to the first song and it sounds very good. Lovely voices. From the All Ireland Rosary Rally page today: "10 years ago today, Sr. Clare Crockett died in an earthquake in Ecuador. Clare was born in Derry, Northern Ireland. Though a baptised Catholic, Clare had little contact with the church growing up. Her stated goal was to be an actress and by the age of 18, she was having success in that career. She had a deep conversion on retreat in Spain with the Home of the Mother order during Holy Week 2000. She entered the Servant Sister of the Home of the Mother the following year taking the motto: “All or Nothing” and the name Sister Clare Maria of the Trinity and the Heart of Mary, S.H.M. Though Sr Clare had no real encounter with the rosary in her family life and found praying the rosary difficulty in her early days as a Servant Sister, she developed a deeper and deeper love and appreciation of the Rosary as she advanced to profession in 2010. She came to see the Rosary as essential in community, in outreach and in her own spiritual growth. Clare served in Spain, Florida and Ecuador. In all these settings she promoted and often led the Rosary especially for children and teens. On April 16, 2016, Clare was just finishing a guitar practice with several teenage girls and preparing to go with them to the chapel for the community Rosary, when the earthquake struck." Sister Clare, pray for us.

When I visited Derry over a year ago to pray at her grave I attended the Eucharistic Procession. I saw children praying the rosary and I then got the idea to try and start Children's Rosary in my own Parish. I got a few helpers and now we have a group of approximately 12 children praying Rosary before Saturday evening Mass. I'm sure Sr Clare helped us to get it going.
