I'm so glad that Padraig posted the NCR interview with Vance. I had watched an interview he gave about the book and his childhood and had taken note of Tucker Carlson's high praise of him. I also knew that he was a convert but that can mean a lot or very little these days so I was still on the fence. Then I saw the RNC speeches and my heart plummeted because it all sounded like more of the same. I'm still wary of what's in store and how much Trump and Vance are controlled by the donors. Even if they leave the Ukraine fiasco in the hands of the EU and British nutjobs, they don't sound any better than Biden on the Middle East, especially the genocide in Palestine. But God is good and Vance may be a rare breed of a politician with a conscience, so maybe the genocide can be stopped. Please God, make them put a stop to it. I also watched this interview with an analyst based in Brussels who believes that Vance is a good choice. Maybe he's right. Who knows? The older I get, the more I realise how little I actually do know or ever knew. And I'm becoming more convinced than ever that real change can only come with repentance and conversion of hearts to Christ, beginning with ourselves. p.s. If only JD Vance spoke more like a Catholic and spoke peace rather than war or inflicting other evils like bankruptcy and sanctions on other countries, he probably wouldn't get elected. What does that tell us about Christianity in America and all our own countries where the leaders are silent for fear of being excluded from the club that calls evil good and good evil? No election will sort this. We're all on the path to destruction and we brought it on ourselves. We can either face up to that and repent or we can continue as we are until God puts a stop to it. And He will. Be in no doubt about that. Half the world has yet to be converted, and God will enable that conversion even if it means permitting faux Christian nations to be destroyed.
What is your position on this prayer on the Jerusalem wall as Catholics, i.e. Christians? To me it is sacrilege because we believe that Jesus is the perfect sacrifice and the perfect temple. God fulfilled his salvation and why would a Catholic go to the remains of the former temple to pray to God?? The Jews do not believe in Jesus and do not accept him, they are still waiting for the "Messiah" and therefore the rest of the temple has a religious meaning for them. With this I am not going against prayer, because a person can pray to God everywhere, but why pray over something that Jesus himself prophesied would be destroyed and that He, as God, would fulfill it to the end. It is the same as someone quoting Moses that it is permissible to divorce and take a new wife and say that he is a Catholic, but we and the Jews have the same God, so it is all the same. If you accept Jesus as the son of God, then you cannot follow the old teachings. Vance, Trump, and other politicians are pandering to the Jews, but in doing so they are rejecting the teachings of Christ. You cannot serve God and people. They could freely go to a Catholic Church in Israel, Bethlehem or Nazareth, as well-known religious gathering places and places of pilgrimage for Catholics, and pray. One must not pray to Christ on the wall because that would mislead the Jews. Finally, I don't know how many of you know, but in Israel there is no + sign in elementary schools because it resembles a cross. And the lower part was thrown out... In the same way, when Jews came to the USA, when they did not know how to sign themselves, they did not want to use the sign x because it resembles a cross, but put a circle, which in Yiddish is called kikel=circle. This is where the name kike came from among other peoples... So, for them, the symbol of the cross is offensive to their religion, and we Christians throw ourselves at the feet of others and play the role of softies denying Christ, especially politicians, and their mouths are full of God in various speeches.
What a wonderful testimony! Your story reminds me that "God ain't finished with me yet." There are layers of pride and resistance. The Holy Spirit prods me and I respond, "Yes!", but then I put it last on my to-do list.
Not crazy about J D Vance but I only trust God through this. I read he says yes to the morning after pill. His movie I didn't even finish when it came out...in the USA most towns are getting just like that. I , along with my family and million others live that same life. We have lost so many to drugs and alcohol that I won't put him on a pedestal because he is Catholic. Has he done anything big to change it? Since then I have lost a brother, a nephew. a son in law, a daughter and her fiance. I have grandkids to worry about.
I think one big thing we've learned over the past 10 or so years is that no one should be put on a pedestal just because they are Catholic. Who knows how he really got to where he is, but he at least is not lying when he says he has lived that life. That's maybe not much, but it's something.

I guessed at once the lady was a Communist because she had zero smiles and so flat faced dead ernest . She thought the American Dream was a myth and had little time for JD Vance. But she did mention that the people who originally bought his books and loved it were East Coast Liberals who took JD Vance as one of their own, which is why it shot to the top of the New York Times Best seller list. The Marxist Professor regards JD Vance as a class traitor. Its funny seeing American Communists, so unexpected. But they are all the same anywhere else in the world. So serious and dead pan. It's some kind of weird distortion of Christianity brought to the US by a guy named, I think, Derby. Those Evangelicals are the gift that keeps on giving to atheistic zionists. Firmly entrenched in the MAGA movement, they seem to share Biden's opinion that the US is the essential nation. Rather than obsessing about the apocalypse, rapture and third temple, they would do well to read Chapter 4 in Matthew and Luke where Satan tempted Jesus with dominion over all the kingdoms on earth if Jesus would bow to him. The response of Jesus (the Prince of Peace) that God alone must we serve seems to have been lost on them. Not a mention of the US Constitution or a democratic, secular State named Israel. What Christian in his right mind, having read Satan's offer and Christ's words of rejection, would want a share in dominion over the whole world? Yet, they're full of lust for the blood of Palestinians and war with Iran, somehow believing that to be what Jesus wants. It doesn't get sicker than that. We must pray for Trump and Vance that they will focus on being the peacemakers whom Jesus declared to be blessed. Biden must have somebody's prayers because, having sold his birthright for a mess of pottage, he has an opportunity to repent now that he's approaching his use by date and the evil one's foot soldiers are homing in on a more likely candidate. Some 20 year old kid whose mind was warped with hatred wasn't so fortunate and leaves behind grieving parents who probably never intended to raise their child to be an assassin. Can Americans not see that such hatred will destroy their country from within as they are fed endless fearmongering about threats from abroad? Sad.
They have great contempt for the working class they claim to represent. I have been reading Hillbilly Elegy. In a way its an American "Angela's Ashes" A memoir of poverty and hopelessness and a very heroic grandmother. It comes from the heart. My father's roots were Scots Irish--in the 18th century they came west with Daniel Boone to Kentucky then to Ohio and finally Chicago. My grandfather and his father were very successful but those were their roots.. Fiercely proud and fiercely loyal and patriotic but formidable when riled. My Irish grandmother brought the Faith into that family. Thanks be to God. I feel a kind of kinship with JD Vance. America's wars have been fought in great part by Scots Irish. Dan Schneider--Father Ripperger's assistant is from Ohio and of that ilk. Fr Donald Calloway from West Virginia has those roots on his father's side. Andrew Jackson was Scots Irish. As was Abraham Lincoln. I'd like to give that professor a few well formed words to chew on
