I think their point was that the only religion which really exists is Catholicism, and, since the „Orthodox Church“ baptizes validly, its adherents are still Catholics even though they don’t realize it.

With all due respect, that is actually a heretical understanding of the Catholic Church that you should completely reject. In those religious communities they believe in some things of our true Faith and reject others. They are outside the true body of the Church. For various historical and theological reasons, some of them are further away than others, some have been away longer than others.

    Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus

This is a basic and incontrovertible dogma of faith, it has been proclaimed not once but at least three times.

So, you’re one of those people who thinks that it’s „dogmatic“ that CS Lewis went straight to hell?

Honestly, I don't know enough about CS Lewis and these people you talk about to be able to answer your question.

The Second Vatican Council declared that the Christian communities that are not in full communion, but only in "partial communion" with the Catholic Church, "though we believe them to be deficient in some respects, have been by no means deprived of significance and importance in the mystery of salvation. For the Spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as means of salvation which derive their efficacy from the very fullness of grace and truth entrusted to the Church". It explained that "some and even very many of the significant elements and endowments which together go to build up and give life to the Church itself, can exist outside the visible boundaries of the Catholic Church: the written word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, and visible elements too. All of these, which come from Christ and lead back to Christ, belong by right to the one Church of Christ".

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that the phrase, "Outside the Church there is no salvation", means, if put in positive terms, that "all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body", and it "is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church".[35] At the same time, it adds: "Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men".[36] The Catechism also states that the Catholic Church "is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter", and that "those who have not yet received the Gospel are related to the People of God in various ways".

as I stated on the previous page of the topic, there is the factor of invincible ignorance that can save a person even outside of Roman Catholicism, however this is something very different from restricting the freedom of the Catholic faith as occurs in Russia; something motivated in part by the country's nationalism. Just like the first century Jews who wanted to prohibit the apostles from preaching freely. All this restriction would cause a serious problem if any Catholic tried to create an apostolate of Fatima in Russia, especially when preaching that according to Our Lady's message it was "Mother Russia" that spread its errors throughout the world in the 20th century; through communist infiltration of the clergy in the same century. This entire process resulted in the current degeneration of the West.

I would have no problem having several Orthodox parishes thriving near mine so I hope the authorities in Russia have the same consideration for us.

I was misinformed by Ann Barnhardt, in that case. Perhaps, she should be taken with a few pinches of salt. Thank you for the clarification, as I unwittingly partook in a calumnification of Cardinal Dolan and the officiating priest.

There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church. That is certainly true. How could there be, all other religious institutions are devoid of the power to save souls that Christ awarded to the Church that He Himself founded. However, the Church has long taught that there are souls saved who were not members of the Catholic Church. According to Ralph Martin, in his book 'Will Many be Saved?', this teaching isn't a modernist idea, but goes back very many centuries. St Padre Pio, no modernist he, was of the opinion that souls just prior to death, would be shown the actual reality of things by Christ Himself. You might not have heard of C.S. Lewis, a Belfast Protestant, but I, myself, would not like to think where I'd be now, if I hadn't read him. If only all modern Catholic prelates were as orthodoxly Christian as him. I think it quite plausible that Christ, at the moment before his death, displayed the absolute Truth of the Catholic Church to Lewis. I find it far less plausible that Lewis would have rejected this Truth.

The unification of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches and all other Protestant Churches will happen in the future, it is a matter of political frameworks that eventually led to the separation. Apostasy in the West is a far bigger problem for the Catholic Church at the moment. Orthodox Churches are national Churches, so nationalism has a great influence on them and acts through them.
We should not forget that the Orthodox Church in Russia suffered terribly, where over 200,000 priests and other church members were killed, more than 30 millions Christians and over 29,000 churches were destroyed during communism, especially from 1928-1941, i.e. during the Great Terror.
More than 85,000 Orthodox priests were shot in 1937 alone...
Russia is soaked in the blood of Christian martyrs, just like most former communist countries.

My whole point of this was not to debate the truth of the Catholic Church, but that as Catholics we must also love our brothers, i.e. other Christians who may have separated from us throughout history for various religious and political reasons. Being Catholic means following Christ in your daily life, towards friends and enemies, towards Catholics and those who are not, towards the kind and those who are not. means to carry peace, kindness and love for everyone, not division. To carry justice and truth. We as individuals have no influence on these legal and political matters. After all, many of them are there for a reason.
Why is someone born in a certain nation, religion or people. It is part of God's plan over which we have no influence.
Jesus himself told Pilate that he would not have power if it had not been given to him from heaven. So God gave Pilate authority, and it was up to him whether he would wash his hands or act justly. Everything happens for a reason and everything has its meaning. How God will save someone is up to him, it is not our concern. It is ours to follow Him in the simplicity, love and mercy He left behind.

Jesus did not preach against the government.

Jesus knew that the unjust Roman government was part of God’s plan. Jesus didn’t preach rebellion against the Romans, although they believed in other gods..
Quite the opposite. He not only paid his taxes to the unjust government, he told his followers that if a soldier of the occupying army forced any of them to carry his gear for a certain distance, an unjust but legal requirement, then the Jesus-follower should offer to carry the gear double that distance.

Jesus did not come to announce a physical, human kingdom. He came to announce the Kingdom of Heaven, a spiritual kingdom. Jesus knew that the unjust occupation was temporary. So is every other human government. The eternal kingdom is God’s spiritual kingdom. That’s where Jesus focused his attention, his preaching, and his work.
The hardest part of Christianity is living the message in your daily life.

What kind of government there will be in Iran, Russia, China is often not under our influence. In Roman times, it was not inclined towards Christians either, but persecuted them. The Kingdom of God will always be in conflict with this World. We don't need to change the government, but our own lives to be witnesses of faith, and then others will look for the joy that we have. That is why the ungodly Roman Empire converted because many admired the faith that Christians represented and because they were willing to die for what they believed. Before Emperor Constantine proclaimed the freedom of Christianity in 313, it is assumed that there were already about 30 million Christians in the Empire of about 50 million, and it started with a few hundred...

Christianity has always spread on martyrdom and love for Christ and neighbor. Not through authorities, governments and states...

It is precisely out of respect for the Orthodox martyrs that I consider the restriction against the Catholic Church in Russia in the name of a nationalism that imposes itself above the doctrine of God to be absurd. The Russian people have the right to know the message of Fatima and to know that Fatima previously announced all the harm that communism would do to the world and to Russia in a matter of months. There is a clear command in the scriptures to preach the pure and true gospel to all nations without any restrictions due to the culture and nationalism of each country. The church is the spiritual kingdom of Christ on earth, so it must not absorb the errors of each country's nationalism nor be subjugated by any kingdom on earth.

Christianity spreads both in persecution and in the context of freedom as in the Middle Ages which was the dominant culture in the Western world. The fact that martyrdom generates new converts does not make the persecutors of the Church good people nor does it alleviate the serious sin they commit, otherwise the Jews who stoned Stephen and persecuted the early church would be immune to criticism in the scriptures. In the time of the antichrist there will be more martyrs than ever before but that does not mean that he will be saved by leading millions to the martyrdom that saves and generates new Christians.

Well, a sin is a sin, there was no discussion about that. And Jesus said that errors will come, because they must come, but woe to him through whom they come.

And Christian Europe had constant wars, bloodshed, corruption, murders, even at one time three people were "fighting" for the throne.

The world fell because man sinned, so the persecution of the Church is what Jesus teaches and whoever follows him must follow that path. This does not mean that those who persecute are good...

The middle ages are called the dark ages by liberals who do not support the Church's doctrine precisely because the church had a lot of power and its message reflected in the culture in general. Sin is sin no matter the ideological line and the country it comes from.

I am talking about something else, which is that Christians do not fight against the authorities and governments, nor do they want to change the government. The Christians of the first centuries were persecuted by the Romans, but their interest was not in a change of government, but in the preaching of the gospel, no matter how much they persecuted and killed them. You keep wanting the Russians, Iranians or other countries to allow you to spread your religion, but it doesn't work that way and it never has.

If the West lived its Christian faith, then the number of missionaries and political activity would be such that Christianity would spread to those countries, because persecutions never stopped Christianity, but an underground Church would be created, and then very quickly the number grew that the rulers became Christians and Christianity is the dominant religion. The message of Fatima was not for Russia, it was for the whole world and was published in Portugal. Today in Portugal, over 60% of children are born out of wedlock. Fatima's message spoke about the battle for the family, the West has today become a symbol of decadence, gay marriage, divorce, abortion.... How do we testify to our faith today? Are we today witnessing the message of Fatima in the West or vice versa...

the message of Fátima occurred months before the Russian revolution, which shows that Our Lady predicted with absolute precision the evil that would be born in the country and would spread to the rest of the world. The Church's magisterium condemns anyone who joins communist parties with the prerogative of excommunication, but this does not mean that it stops vehemently condemning the sins of homosexuality; of abortion; and divorce. If you are on a Catholic forum, you know very well what the 2,000-year-old Catholic doctrine is and that Western governments do not represent Roman Catholicism in any way, so stop using this caricature of Christianity in the West to diminish the severity of the persecutions that occur. in Russia, China and Iran.

The Middle Ages are called the Dark Ages because hordes of illiterate barbarians penetrated the then developed Western civilization and ravaged the empire for centuries before its fall, and then for centuries after its fall. The Roman Empire was the center of literacy, culture, science, philosophy, art, and suddenly it was broken and various tribes came that had just formed their new empires, there were struggles for power, etc. Another important segment was the black plague, which on two occasions wiped out a third of the population of Europe and caused a great famine...Later there were invasions of Muslims into Europe via Africa, while the entire culture moved to Byzantium, i.e. the Eastern Roman Empire.
