Iran sent a message to Israel on Saturday stressing that it does not want further escalation in the Hamas-Israel war, but that it will have to intervene if the Israeli operation in Gaza continues, two diplomatic sources with knowledge of the situation told Axios.

Why it matters: The fighting between Hamas and Israel will turn into a regional war if Iran gets involved either directly or indirectly, such as through a militant group in Syria or by backing any Hezbollah decision to fully join the fighting.

Some relevant points don't seem to have been mentioned or considered here.

1. Hamas's proudly and oft admitted 'mission' is to destroy Israel and to rid it of every Jew by any means whatever. It also seeks the creation of a world-wide Caliphate in which no other religion than Islam will be tolerated. They don't hide this, they revel in their aims and in their willingness to die to achieve them.
2. The great majority of the people of Gaza (the parents and grandparents of the children suffering and dying in Gaza now) VOTED for Hamas in 2006 (of course there have been no elections since). They knew what Hamas' aims were and they knew how Israel would react to any attempt to put their aims into effect (e.g. to the decapitation of Jewish babies) but they went to the polls and actually voted for those swearing to eradicate Israel. And what did Israel do? They did what Egypt did to keep the Islamists out, they closed the border depriving tens of thousands of Gazan Arabs from employment across the borders.
3. When St. Pope Pius X spoke, a minor matter of the Holocaust had not occurred and the many non-Zionists and the large number of non-religious European Jews of the time would have shared his opposition to the creation of modern Israel. The Holocaust caused many European Jews (formerly Zionist or not) to rush to the Holy Land after the war in order to be with other Jews and so feel some measure of security from a repeat situation. I would certainly have done the same in their shoes.
4. Gaza was created by agreement between the PLO and Israel. The PLO's aim was to turn Gaza into a 'middle eastern Singapore' and holiday destination. The PLO was, unfortunately, but as is often the case with 'liberation' groups, thoroughly corrupt and were misusing the generous multi-million dollar grants of aid to line their own pockets. Hamas has less selfish uses for the lavishly donated funds and uses them to buy weapons to attack Israel.
5. Morocco, Iraq, Syria and Iran all in fairly recent times had sizeable Jewish minorities. When Israel was founded, all these Jews found themselves the object of odium, rank discrimination, violence and murder. Where did they go? They were driven to emigrate to Israel thus significantly increasing its population and so the country's will and power to defend itself.
6. If Israel is making real attempts to minimise civilian deaths (and I am not in a position to know whether or not it is), what more can it do?

How does any of that justify Palestinians being pushed off their land? How does it justify a member of the Israeli government calling Palestinians sub-human? How does it justify Israel founding/funding/arming Hamas to split the Palestinian vote? How does it justify Israel bombing civilian apartment blocks? How does it justify Israel telling two million people to leave or be killed, especially when those people are hemmed in? Justify those actions and it won't be long before you justify shaving the heads and tattooing numbers on the arms of Palestinians.

The governments of countries that once labelled Ben Gurion a terrorist are now excusing his successors' actions that wouldn't be tolerated by the international community if the guilty party were the administration of any other country. All involved need to make some genuine efforts to negotiate a solution.

As far as I understand, what has happened in Israel, kicked off with a rage that has engendered the government and IDF to wage all out war on the Gaza strip where Arab settlers have taken the national name Palestinian, the provocation was caused by a well organised invasion by Hamas terrorists where citizens were slaughtered, raped (some to death), burned or shot or slashed to death. Even babies in their cribs beheaded. Hostages were taken. All done in the name of allah. These atrocities were done in person up close and personal, not from a distance like a bombing. This speaks volumes to anyone who has any idea of what it is to be human. This could only be perpetrated by people possessed by the devil (terrorists).

Whatever evil men of Jewish ancestry did historically can also be matched by evil men formerly Catholic like Stalin and Hitler; so I don't think we have a right to insert historical evil, and magnify the situation before us. We have a duty to pray for our leaders, Church and State.

My heart goes out to the people of Palestine as it also grieves for the Israelis mutilated and tortured by Hamas terrorists.

I had formed a very negative opinion of the governments in Israel, and my opinion was based on what I read and heard in the media over the years.

Recently we have been able to read and hear the other side of the story, and it has caused me to seriously rethink the whole situation.

Look what our governments are doing in our name, opening our borders to people who do not respect our culture, do not care a fig about what God thinks and as for His Messiah, neither the Jews nor the Muslims care a fig about what has been revealed in the New Testament. The saddest thing of all it appears to me the majority of Christians no longer care a fig about God and His Messiah. Only God knows what is truly going on behind closed doors, so we are duty bound to help in any way we can those who suffer in this terrible TRIBULATION.

Anyone who has not realised the terrorists are not only out to exterminate the Jews, but the rest of us who do not submit to their ideology.
