Would they be good guard dogs?

 

When my Newfs (my current is 170 pounds) bark and jump at the door, people run! Their looks are very intimidating and yes I do believe they would bite or attack to protect their owner. However it would have to be seriously provoked before doing so as they will not even hurt a baby chick on purpose. So I feel very safe with mine on the property despite them not being bred as guard dogs.

 

I would like to feel safe. Maybe not always other people.

But they are so cute. Do you watch, 'Animal Watch'?

 

Sorry to hear about your Raleigh, it's so hard to lose a beloved pet.

 

If you like the look of the Newfie, I would suggest a Tibetan Mastiff. But they ARE a dangerous dog if not well trained....

Sorry for the loss of your fur kid. We are getting a dog tomorrow. We lost our sheltie ten years ago and are just now going to get another dog. A local family is giving up their chocolate lab mix and we are going to take her. Our cat is named Zuzu after the little girl on Its A Wonderful Life. We are going to rename this dog Jenny after the girl on Forrest Gump. Since she is a chocolate lab, life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you are going to get.
