Pope Francis

  1. Interesting info. from the Vatican on Pope Francis trip to L'Aquila at the end of August...I looked for info. on the Feast of Forgiveness and found this
From August 23rd to 30th, the city of L’Aquila celebrates the Feast of Celestinian Forgiveness (Perdonanza Celestiniana), a historical and religious feast reaching this year its 728th edition.

The feast draws back to the bull issued by Pope Celestine V in 1294 granting a plenary indulgence to all pilgrims visiting Santa Maria di Collemaggio Church on August 28th and 29th.
The Feast of Celestinian Forgiveness is considered to be a forerunner of the Jubilee.

The celebration of Forgiveness is preceded by the two weeks of the “Path of forgiveness” which crosses 23 villages along an 80 km itinerary and ends on August 23 in L’Aquila, where the feast begins with a series of cultural events and re-enactments until 28 August, the day in which the “Corteo della Bolla” takes place in costume, from the historic center (Palazzo Margherita) to the Basilica of Collemaggio.

There are three symbolic figures in the parade: the Bull Lady ( the woman carrying the ancient Papal Bull) the Young Lord (carrying an olive branch to open the Holy Door) and the Cross Lady ( cross that is offered to the Cardinal who opens the door).

In front of the church takes place the ceremony where the mayor reads to the citizens the bull and a Cardinal, chosen from the Holy See, knocks on the door three times with the olive branch. This way he can let the citizens in.

    ++++++++
Then there is this from an Associated Press article:
The Vatican announced Saturday Francis would visit L’Aquila to celebrate Mass on Aug. 28 and open the “Holy Door” at the basilica hosting Celestine’s tomb. The timing coincides with the L’Aquila church’s celebration of the Feast of Forgiveness, which was created by Celestine in a papal bull.

No pope has travelled to L’Aquila since to close out the annual feast, which celebrates the sacrament of forgiveness so dear to Francis, noted the current archbishop of L’Aquila, Cardinal Giuseppe Petrocchi.

“We hope that all people, especially those harmed by conflicts and internal divisions, might (come) and find the path of solidarity and peace,” he said in a statement announcing the visit.
    ++++++++++++++++
Interesting news, I thought, if Pope Francis is sick with more than mobility problems, he could get a plenary indulgence from this visit for himself.

the pope emeritus during his pontificate made symbolic gestures towards Celestine V indicating that he might as well resign.
Possibly the biggest omen of the Pope's decision to resign was that, during his pontificate, he twice visited Pope Saint Celestine. In 2009, the Pope prayed at his tomb and left his own pallium over it, and in 2010 he went to the cathedral in Sulmona (Italy) to visit the relics of the saint and prayed there.

Robert Royal makes the interesting point today in the Catholic Thing, in a commentary on this matter, that while Pope Francis has made some controversial appointments of liberals to the Cardinalate, he has also appointed many from the 'peripheries' of the world whose views might not be so liberal. Is a cardinal from Ulan Bator likely to share the world-view of a Cupich, for example? It is certainly not written in stone that Pope Francis going to be replaced by a clone.

I hope and pray that the next Pope will be as un-cloned as possible.

Pope Francis is possibly the most politically aware Pope in all history.

In this respect he is a political genius. He knows who is for him and who is against him . In this respect in his own terms it has been a brilliant, Diabolical, Pontificate.

All seems set for an even more brilliant, more Diabolic Pope to follow.

Pope Francis has been the most evil and Satanic
evil, evil, wicked, totally depraved and dissolute, bad Pope in 2,000 years
by a long, long, long shot...and the good God knows there have been some pretty, bad, evil and wicked Popes before him. He kicks them all into the ball park.

He leaves all previous bad Popes gasping in horror.

No previous Pope, no matter how wicked, no matter how bad, can come close to him in sheer, total, depraved, disssolute, wickedness.

    But will God permit it?

That is the question. Is an even more evil Pope to follow?

    Will God permit it?

My on, personal difficulty as regards Pope Francis is that I can't use four letter words to describe him. Everybody would gather round me to admonish me to reflect on how disrespectful I was being.

I don't care; I wish I could use four letter words...

I recall when he visited Ireland and a friend asked me if I would not go to see him..

    and I replied.

    'I would if I carried a gun'

My feelings have not changed. I am very, very intensely hostile to the man.

He has done immense harm to the Church. Looking at him makes me want to throw up.

Não descarto a tese de ter outro jesuíta na sequência como o cardeal canadense Michael Czerny.

this newspaper Washington Post article also discusses the possibility of Francis' resignation at the end of August however there is a counterpoint that he would not want to resign as long as Benedict XVI is alive: however I was reminded of a rumor last year that he planned to launch a document abolishing the title of pope emeritus in the church (to prevent the confusion of having 3 popes in the church).

If a resignation takes place at the end of August, the election of the successor is probably between September and October when the continental phase of the Synod takes place: I think this is significant.

I tend to think he likes the exercise of power and the game of politics too much to resign.

However I saw a recent photo of him in a wheelchair and he looked very ill indeed. That was a very, very, big operation he jut had , with a poor life span prognosis.

I hope some day to read an account of how he gets on on his death bed. It will make interesting reading.

The end of August is still quite a few weeks away. If he wishes to resign, maybe he should be getting on with it.

if the resignation takes place there may be a war operation to elect a liberal such as releasing compromising (and possibly false) dossiers about conservative cardinals and/or requiring vaccine passports in Rome.

I am appalled at all that has transpired during this pontificate and Francis has initiated much of what grieves me. But he is not the embodiment of evil; the Lord has allowed all sorts of evil to increase exponentially because of the hardness of hearts throughout the world. Grace has been poured out, but most hearts are hard as rock and the grace fails to penetrate.

I still remember my utter dismay when a Prelate of the Church boasted that in his decades of service in the Amazon, he had not baptized one convert!

As it was at the time of Babel, as it was at the time of the Flood, as it was among the leaders who sentenced Jesus to death, so it is now.

Luke 13: 34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not! 35 Behold, your house is forsaken.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on me a sinner!:notworthy:
