As has been case for 2 + years with this pandemic, the information, or lack thereof, has been all over the place with so many contradictions. I read that omicron is causing milder symptoms yet read hospitals are filed, ICU beds at capacity and deaths expected to increase in coming months. I read that unvaccinated are getting, giving and becoming the most sick causing hospitals to fill.. But, I also read that roughly 1/2 of transmissions and those hospitalized are those who are “fully “ vaccinated. So, with all this said, it feels we truly have gone nowhere in terms of knowledge of this disease in these 2 years. Sad and frustrating.
What pandemic? (Rhetorical question) Ireland has seen no excess deaths due to the pandemic (Republic of Ireland). The Israel studies also show that the jab doesn’t work on the omicron . Apparently, this or another variant will be seasonal. Thanks Fauci! I’ve no doubt this virus was released from the China lab for gain of function experiments funded by the USA because of Fauci. Congress has the evidence yet lying Fauci still denies it.
I think it will be quite some time before the scientific community is willing to let go of the "pandemic" label. There is simply too much money left to be made. I suspect that a new vaccine will be developed shortly for the new variants but a good number of people who are growing weary of the fear mongering will simply ignore it.
I am not defending the media or scientific community but there are reasons for the things that are happening that are complicating matters. Remember, this thing came out of nowhere and the scientific community scrambled to understand it and provide a solution to it in very little time. It does not help that it has been politicized by factions of the media also. The media as well made much more of the advances and setbacks as they are like to do to get people vaccinated. This variant is highly contagious and has broken through the vaccine barrier in most places which is common knowledge. The young and those with healthy immune systems and those who have had the vaccine and get it are faring well and in most cases experiencing mild illness. They are however spreading the variant because it has adapted to the vaccine antibodies. There is also some evidence that some people who carry a specific genetic marker are much more susceptible to the virus and have a higher mortality rate but this information is not being widely spread by the media. https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/health/8279673/gene-that-doubles-risk-severe-covid-illness/ The elders and the section of people in our society who are most vulnerable due to pre existing illnesses or other co morbidity who are vaccinated are not faring as well for a couple reasons. One of them is that the vaccine relies on ones immune system to replicate the antibodies to defend against the virus. So in older people who have less robust immune systems they receive the booster and their bodies do not make nearly as many of these antibodies as the young. They catch the virus, get a more serious case of illness as they are less able to fight it off and some end up in hospital as it develops into pneumonia. Same with those with immune illnesses. In some cases such as people who take strong immune suppressants it is rather pointless to receive the vaccine when ones immune system will not even react to it to create these antibodies. These people are living under the hope that it will protect them and it very well may not but does for some. They get gravely ill as a result and some end up in hospital. Of course this is not info that our governments want to be focused on so they too are hoping that if they simply keep propagating the message to get vaccinated and get the booster most will get lesser cases and end up OK with many not needing hospitalization. The message that the un-vaccinated are filling hospital beds is the media and govt trying to get everyone vaccinated and relieve some of the pressure on hospitals who now are getting many more people due to the break through cases. This message is of course the area which many choose to blame those who choose not to vaccinate for the increase in cases. Much of this is very confusing information because it is fluid and changes as new variants arise. Again, it does not help matters that some in the media are using this as a political weapon as well. It also does not help matters that there is information that has been withheld so as not to create an uproar. Our governments have deliberately stoked the fear of this illness to get people to take the vaccine and obey govt mandates. I can only hope and pray this quickly makes its way across the pond. edit- still disappointed like our SCOTUS, still requiring vac for healthcare workers. Ironically the ones who least likely need it since they most likely had COVID and have natural immunity. But again… a positive step.
