I struggle with this discrepancy myself. That said, I suggest to also take my information with a grain of salt because it is very limited anecdotal evidence. My general impression is that the Chinese government, whilst totalitarian, looks after their economy and their people. I don't think they would like to see people dying in droves. For example, they lifted the one-child policy and they just lifted the two-child policy. Whilst I don't know any details, I reckon they keep the efficacy of their vaccines under constant review and will make improvements, if necessary. I generally trust them more than the Western governments.

I don't trust them at all. I do think that keeping their working age population disease free will be a priority for them. People dying in droves is what happened and everything points to that laboratory being the source of the humanised strain of the virus. The ageing demographic is likely the main reason they lifted their one and later two child policy. If covid killed mostly elderly people, that may have been a plus for them. Sadly, it may well also serve the Western population control crowd who wield far too much influence over politicians who watched their elderly die rather than allow doctors use treatment protocols that may have saved the lives of many. I believe that they would re-vaccinate the population, possibly with a tweaked version of their vaccine, if they considered it necessary. If their infection rates are low in comparison with Western countries and if they haven't introduced boosters, wouldn't that be an indication that their vaccine is more effective?
