Quo primum, issued by Pope Saint Pius V on 14 July, 1570, said of the Tridentine Rite: "We grant in perpetuity that this Missal is hereafter freely and lawfully to be used, without any scruple of conscience or fear of incurring any penalty or censure...No one whosoever is permitted to alter this notice of Our permission, statute, ordinance, command, precept, grant, indult, declaration, will, decree, and prohibition. Should anyone dare to contravene it, let him know that he will incur the wrath of Almighty God and of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul."

I arrived at my FSSP church for Mass today with a heavy heart, but felt strengthened and full of peace by the end of Mass. Our pastor spoke to us before Mass began, comforting and advising us to go to God in prayer and not to get carried away in reaction right now. He said he's already talked with our chancellor's office and was told to rest easy, that not one thing would change for us and we are to carry on as normal. (Of course, that is of little comfort to those in a diocese headed by a bishop hostile to the TLM.) Father said, "Let's wait and see... Let the devil play his hand, so to speak, and let the chips fall where they will." We are to put this squarely in God's hands. All throughout the Mass, as I wrestled with my thoughts and feelings in conversation with God, I kept hearing these verses coming back into my head: "For if this endeavor or this activity is of human origin, it will destroy itself. But if it comes from God, you will not be able to destroy them; you may even find yourselves fighting against God.” Acts 5:38-39 Basically I kept hearing, if the TLM is willed by God to remain, nothing will stop it. God is in control; His will be done. I will not let this disturb my peace or drive me to bitterness. I won't let it cause me to be disrespectful or disobedient to the pope. God will prevail. How He will do it, how long it will take, and so on, is not up to me, but I will certainly contribute my prayers and sacrifices.
As a side note: directly after Mass Father had those wishing to be enrolled in the brown scapular approach the altar. My 8-year-old son was one of at least 100 people to do so--half adults, half children. It was absolutely beautiful. Another side note: I don't think I've ever heard a crowd pray the St. Michael's prayer with such passion and fervor as our congregation did today. It actually moved me to tears.
Richard67, WOW! I would NOT want to be Pope Francis right now. And to have happened on the Feast Day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel! NOT GOOD!
As much as I love this, I do have to ask...did the Holy Father intend this to be binding on future pontiffs? I would love to see proof that he meant even future popes couldn't change it, and he wasn't just talking to everyone BUT the Holy See. I guess I'm wondering...why would one pope have the authority to change/permit/limit the Mass, but another pope not have that same authority?
The FSSP's statement today: FSSP Statement Regarding Traditionis Custodes With the publication of Pope Francis’ latest motu proprio, Traditionis Custodes, which has placed new restrictions on the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, many of us are disheartened and anxious. At this point, it is too early to tell what all the implications will be for the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, but we assure you that we remain committed to serving the faithful attending our apostolates in accordance with our Constitutions and charism as we have done since our founding. We must strive to see this Cross as a means of our sanctification, and to remember that God will never abandon His Church. Our Lord Himself promises us the necessary graces to bear our Crosses with strength and courage. We must not, however, neglect to do our part as faithful Catholics; let us pray and offer sacrifices in our daily lives, and trust in the intercession of Our Lady, St. Joseph, and our patron, St. Peter.
I was reading through Francis's letter accompanying the Motu proprio which is an interesting read through if you have not read it. Half way down it is in english. https://press.vatican.va/content/salastampa/it/bollettino/pubblico/2021/07/16/0469/01015.html#ingL Anyway, the second to last paragraph is confusing. Maybe I am misreading it but it sounds as if those who celebrate the Latin rite are considered by Francis as outside the norm and needing to return to the NO rite. I don't understand this reasoning. The Latin rite which was celebrated in various forms exclusively for almost 1600 years if anything it seems should be considered the ordinary rite if nothing but for it's longevity. If the people are gradually forced to conform themselves to the new rite and the Latin rite is phased out of most diocese I suspect that the SSPX and "others" may well see a pretty large influx of congregants. I also wonder if this is not the intention all along. Taylor Marshall touches on this as well. "Indications about how to proceed in your dioceses are chiefly dictated by two principles: on the one hand, to provide for the good of those who are rooted in the previous form of celebration and need to return in due time to the Roman Rite promulgated by Saints Paul VI and John Paul II, and, on the other hand, to discontinue the erection of new personal parishes tied more to the desire and wishes of individual priests than to the real need of the “holy People of God.” At the same time, I ask you to be vigilant in ensuring that every liturgy be celebrated with decorum and fidelity to the liturgical books promulgated after Vatican Council II, without the eccentricities that can easily degenerate into abuses. Seminarians and new priests should be formed in the faithful observance of the prescriptions of the Missal and liturgical books, in which is reflected the liturgical reform willed by Vatican Council II."
He is a snake always was. A complete an utter disaster. you couldnt conceive a worst enemy than smiling francis
Pope Francis is out of step with every other pontiff in teaching that the death penalty "is inadmissible" in every circumstance. He is also out of step with previous Pope's in his novel interpretation on marriage in Amoris Laetitia. Interesting that this Pope is one who thinks "making a mess" is somehow a virtue. I think a future Pope will step in to clear up the moral and liturgical mess he has made in his pontificate.
Even the secular media have noted his maverick teaching style and the disastrous consequences of his novel approach to theology. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article...id-this-is-a-disaster-for-the-catholic-church Pope Francis, spiritual leader of a billion people, has just informed them that 'the great majority' of sacramental marriages are invalid because couples don't go into them with the right intentions. He was speaking at a press conference in Rome. Here's the context, from the Catholic News Agency. 'It’s provisional, and because of this the great majority of our sacramental marriages are null. Because they say "yes, for the rest of my life!" but they don’t know what they are saying. Because they have a different culture. They say it, they have good will, but they don’t know.' The Pope, thinking aloud in the manner of some maverick parish priest after a couple of glasses of wine at dinner, has just told millions of his flock that they are not really married.
I pray for this. Every day. When I pray for his soul I always pray for the rescue and restoration of Holy Mother Church.
