    I know not everyone is a fan of, Lord of the Rings'. But you know J R Tolkein was a Daily Communicant and a very devout Catholic and I suspect much in these books is prophetic to our present times.

    If you recall the Evil one , Sauron tried to sadduce people behind the scenes as well as by direct assault. It occurs to me that the white wizard who went over to the evil one's side reminds me very much of the Papacy. Also what went on with the Horse People , the Roheryn is very simliar to what is going on in the Church. Undercurrents of good and evil.

    Cardinals Cupich and Tobin and Archbishop Gregory remind me so much of Worm Tongue and the White Wizard who went over to Sauron reminds me of....well guess.;)

    Gandalf reminds me of people like Cardinal Burke and Strickland.

    This is so well analysed, I am grateful for this post. I am absolutely convinced that Lord of the Rings contains Catholic analogy. Bit of a fan, went to Hobbiton near Matamata with my family a few years ago.

    J R Tolkein was asked one time if Frodo the Little Hobbit was representing Jesus. But he said no he represents the average Christian on his or her journey to God. Not unlike John Bunyans ,wonderful , 'Pilgrims Progress'.

    But in any case it has a very strong spiritual message. A very Catholic one.

    I always thought Galadriel resembled Our Lady so much:

    Absolutely, whatever we as clergy and/or laity can do in accordance with our freedoms and limitations, we must do, for the sake of the Bride and the Gospel. For instance, some deacons I know preach frequently and are given great latitude by their pastors; others are not. But if not, one should do privately what they can't do publicly at Holy Mass.

    Safe in the Barque of Peter.

    Important distinction, thanks. Admittedly there’s not much, globally thinking, us mere laity can do. But we still must try.

    We saw the Peter Jackson films on the big screen.

    The Elves were breathtaking. :love:

    Haven't read the novels.

    Over the years, I read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings to my children, front to back, twice. I first read them myself during college.

    We couldn’t wait to see each installment on the big screen and other than a few quibbles, we certainly weren’t disappointed.

    I’m a huge fan of all things Tolkien.

    I love this cover. Found it just now. I've got a lot of reading ahead of this, so I'm unsure I'll read it. TolkienOnFairyStories.jpg

    I don't know if I mentioned it but Our Lady has been pushing me to go to Abruzzo an Italian region , just 30 km outside Rome, relatively shortly to set up a Catholic Refuge there, I hope, in the cool air in the mountains beside the sea. I am looking forward to it. it is an adventure. But it is part of the Marian plan. Our Blessed Lady does things quietly, but this area I am going to to is in the very,very heart of the Church...the next door neighbour to the See of Peter ..so... this is not an accident...

    Climate and Average Weather in Abruzzo, Italy
    Abruzzo is a region in Italy. The most popular city in this region is Pescara. So we will use the climate data of Pescara to tell you more about which weather you can expect in Abruzzo:

    During the month of May, September and October you are most likely to experience good days with pleasant average temperatures that fall between 20 degrees Celsius (68°F) and 25 degrees Celsius (77°F). On average, the warmest month(s) are July and August. The coldest month is January with an average maximum temperature of 10°C (50°F).

    Some other facts:

    • The months of October, November and December have a high chance of precipitation.
    • December is the most wet month. This month should be avoided if you are not a big fan of rain.
    • July is the driest month.
    • The warmest month in Abruzzo is August with an average maximum temperature of 28°C (82°F).
    • July is the most sunny month.

    I haven't watched all the video so I don't know whether or not there is any reference to the fact that Our Lady appeared in that region under the titles 'Our Lady of the Alno' (Alno is Italian for the white poplar tree on which She appeared in 1492 to a local farmer). Our Lady asked that a Church be built in her honour and it eventually was. The feast of the apparition is still celebrated on the 18th of May in the area according to this article.

    Was there anywhere in Italy Our Lady did not appear?

    I adore Italy. I so love the Italians. (Especially the southerners.. such warm hearts) (apart from the Mafia who I kind of feel a weird kind of Irish kinship with...they were originally freedom fighters)

    How to get rid of the Latin Mass
    It's time for another in our long-running series on "How to be a good pope," which is proving unmissable reading for those cardinals itching to sit on the throne of St Peter.

    The story so far: your predecessor, Pope Benedictus, who lives entirely on German beer and is therefore still alive at the age of 103, wrote a Motor Propeller, Summa Holiday (memo: check title) permitting the wider use of the traditional Latin Mass.
    [IMG]
    Translating some updates to the liturgy into Latin. Now you always hated Latin at school, ever since Mr Pacelli gave you six of the best for mistranslating the Lord's Prayer. And there is evidence of widespread support for your views - why only yesterday you got a letter on the subject which said "old, unpopular, incomprehensible, really rather pointless, better alternatives available." Admittedly they were talking about you, but it's the thought that counts.

    So the time has come to repeal Summa Holiday. You were waiting for Benedictus to die, but you saw him out jogging this morning, and you are wondering whether he might even outlive you. So you have written your own Motor Propeller. In Italian of course, as it would be shooting yourself in the foot if you used Latin. Anyway, your F- grade in Latin is still a sore point.

    Still, to make it look official, you have given it a Latin title.
    [IMG]
    The cover page of your Motor Propeller. Romanes Eunt Domus is - your advisers assure you - an idiomatic way of saying "No more Latin", and will make the public realise you are serious.

    The first thing to do is to give a press conference to which none of the press is invited, just a bunch of chatty Italian bishops. That way, your plans can leak out unofficially (as your mate Arthur Sousa points out, "If it ain't on a tape-recorder, it never happened, and that goes for the New Testament too.")

    Now ask a few dead-beat journalists to make up reasons why the Traditional Latin Mass needs suppressing. They will say it is:
    * fascist, alt-right, Trumpist, racist;
    * homophobic, transphobic, claustrophobic;
    * expected to cause climate change: it has already killed off
    all Rome's polar bears;
    * beloved of Burke, Sarah, Müller, Pell, and all the other
    loonies who used to be your friends;

    and so on. Then you can go ahead with it. One top tip is to replace Cardinal Sarah at the Congregation of Divine Worship with his deputy, bluff Yorkshireman Friar (Arthur) Tuck. You've never been able to understand a word he says, but you're fairly sure that he hates Latin ("ee, tha's a poncey southern language!") so he will help you implement Romanes Eunt Domus, and take the blame if it all goes wrong. Make him a cardinal so that you can keep an eye on him.

    When I become Pope, my first encyclical will be called On Ilkla Moor Baht' at.

    Quod erat demonstrandum!Addendum, one day later. Uncle Arthur got the job, and here he is beginning his revision of the liturgy.
