Where does that put St Malachy's prophecy?

    112. Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills [i.e. Rome] will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The End.[13] Pope Francis (2013-Present) Jorge Bergoglio: Jorge meaning "Earth Worker" or "Farmer" Many analyses of the prophecy note that it is open to the interpretation that additional popes would come between the "glory of the olive" and Peter the Roman.[4][14] Popular speculation by proponents of the prophecy attach this prediction to Benedict XVI's anticipated successor.[1]

I think if he was called 'Peter the Roman' we would have all fainted.

There is no way around the prophecy, Pope Francis is #112. He is Petrus Romanus.
Maybe Pope Benedict stepped down to make room for him, #112, maybe.

I absolutely believe in my heart that Jesus asked Benedict to step down to make way for this pope. Benedict was/is a good and faithful servant serving for many years with John Paul 2 and then as Pope himself.

This pope is to proclaim the 5th dogma, of that I am certain.. (y)

Well, there are some that think that the Peter the Roman prophecy was an add-on . . . and not part of the original St. Malachy list. A few years back I read a persuasive article about why it was a fake, but I can't remember where . . . Anyway, I wouldn't be shocked to find out that the prophecy on Peter the Roman is bogus.

On a related note . . . even though I had reservations about the last pope prophecy, I remained semi-open to it. If I remember correctly, the first place I heard about the pope taking the name Peter the Roman was on Catholic Planet--Pope Peter II--one of Ron's predictions. I think he later changed his prediction to Pope Pius XIII. At the time, I thought that Peter was a possibility, but I had my doubts. As of lately, I dismissed the name by 95%, because it became too mainstream. People who aren't even Catholic, and don't really follow prophecy very closely, were speculating that the next pope would be called Pope Peter the Roman. Strangely enough, I heard them talking about it on a non-Christian talk show. Call me a cynic, but if the secular media is saying it is so, I know it's probably wrong.

The 5th dogma is more than likely the happy event in the church that Conchita has mentioned will coincide with the miracle at the pines. It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.

On EWTN they said he is actually Italian. Both of his parents migrated from Italy to Argentina! So he kind of IS a roman!

I did not ever think that the last pope would be called Peter the Roman, for one, no pope is going to call himself that and number two, none of the preious 112 popes called themselves by the Latin name associated with their pontificate. Could you imagine Pope Benedict giving himself the name Pope Glory of the Olives? Surely the names given by Malachy had to do with their actions not their chosen papal name.

Pope Benedict had his reasons for stepping down. He didn't do it to just retire and put his feet up.
As you said, he is a good and faithful servant, and what he did, he did to the will of God, I believe. :)

I was born in the USA, and my mother, who was 100% Italian was also, and her parents were also born here. It isn't until we get to my great grandparents that we arrive at those that were born in Italy in my family. BUT, we were part of a very strong Italian community here, and we never thought of ourselves as "Italian-Americans". We were Italian.....And we were American....never losing the identity.

His parents were actually 1st generation immigrants. I imagine the Italian identity was even stronger...

It's disappointing to hear people mess with words of the Saints. Thanks for sharing that information.
I always found it kind of strange that we would know when we have "the last Pope". As Christ is going to return like a thief in the night.
But as you said, you are unsure, so I am sitting on the fence with this prophecy.

  19. Well according to old testament scripture, the Latin Petrus is the male word for 'little pebble' , Petra is the female word for 'large rock'. When Christ told Peter in Matthew that he was Peter , he said Petrus....

I think that the fact that this Pope was born is Italy is significant also, he is Romanus. But he being raised in Argentina, and also has duel rites and was head of the Eastern Catholic Church down there, plus his being pastoral and humble all add up beautifully!! Petrus Romanus---the little pebble of Rome--it CAN'T GET MORE HUMBLE THAN THAT!! UNLESS HE WAS A FISHERMAN!

    St. Malachy was spot on!

Yes, there seems to be something more than a coincidence here, making the prophecy hard to totally dismiss. Then again, since most popes have been Italian, it could have been an educated guess.
