I suppose in the days of Noah when the gentle rains started people looked up at the skies and laughed even harder, at first. Thinking it funny too.

It was probably only when they started floating about that they stopped laughing.

I hate this -- what they're doing in Italy. It's soooooo Masonic.

On the other hand, supposed the Church ignored the dictates of the State, and then someone claims they became "community infected" by attending Mass? How would you prove or disprove it? I can imagine even stricter restrictions being placed upon the Church by the State, and imagine what kind of frenzy the Media would whip up, over these homosexual priests spreading disease throughout the country?

  3. The visiting priest this morning quoted T.S. Eliot in his homily, saying "humankind cannot bear very much reality". I think things are about to get very real.

They call it a , 'Flexible quarantine'. This is the first time in my life I ever heard of a flexible quarantine. It means you kinda have a quarantine but then again you don't have a quarantine. So for instance people are still flying into and out of Milan airport from which Italy has passed on the plague to over 17 other countries including Ireland and South America. Food places and cafes are still open.

Why is this? Well follow the money...Milan is the Financial Capitol of the World. Can't upset the money. So we have a , 'flexible quarantine'.

The Pope today gave the Angelus by video, then came out in the open and blessed the people. Go figure.

The Italian Conference of Bishops have put out the letter that, yes, ALL public Masses in Italy are cancelled until April 3rd. Funerals are also not to be held.

I had an interesting and scary discussion recently with a well educated man. He reckoned this virus was a test to see how the world would react to a crisis. That all the reported cases are just that, “reported.” Fear is ruling the day!
He left me thinking, could he be right? I have to admit though I haven’t been keeping up to speed on recent developments. But I don’t know anybody who has contracted the virus. Do you?

  9. I read somewhere today that Churches that draw tourists I think were having more open air Masses to avoid the usually large numbers gathering in the more confined areas.

  10. Yeah, I worry about my cousin who is the guitar tech for "The Edge"....."Dallas" Schoo. Always a good kid....worked really hard over the years as tech for a lot of stars, like Jimmy Buffett before and during beginning time with U2.

  11. I was talking with another "oldster" at Church this morning about the days when during Lent it was usual to have empty holy water fonts and statues/crucifix covered over.

Yes, when I lived up north the statues were covered and sand was put in holy water fonts. It must depend on diocese or Priest? We are singing some Latin and the Greek Kyrie for lent, I like that . . .

God might allow diseases to spread while we participate, but have we reached the stage whereby we all run away like most of the Apostles, but at least the latter faced a more immediate and certain danger?

When will the secular authorities allow them to be held again? This is setting an ominous precedent. Does it apply to Islam?

I believe they will shut down all cities to train for future events. It’s a good reason to practice martial law and see how police and people respond.

  17. No, no one I know has contracted this virus. I feel so sad about the suppression of the Mass in Italy. Here is what the Vatican is allowing https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/...-daily-mass-casa-santa-marta-coronavirus.html

Plausible, but the cock-up model of history usually turns out to be more likely than the conspiratorial one. If it is so, it has seriously backfired in Iran where it is the elite sector that has been hit hardest.

It has been sold out in Dublin for weeks. Worth your while to go daily to the shop and buy as much as they will sell you. When Muzhik posted instructions on how to make your own, I checked out Boots website to see if they had the ingredients. They had surgical spirits which I was hoping is the same as rubbing alcohol but they were sold out of the gel so that rules out the DIY option for me.

Masses are still being offered behind closed doors. I read that one diocese (Bergamo?) has banned ringing church bells for fear of confusing the faithful. They had been ringing the bells as usual to let people know that Mass would be offered and the faithful could unite with the priests in prayer. No bells now. I don't think that the Vatican made any secret that the current party in power was their choice in the election.

I was never a U2 fan. Probably the only choice I can look back on and not feel ashamed.

That also occurred to me. I wonder are the shops in Mullingar and Athlone sold out of hand sanitiser.
How much of this disaster in Italy is down to the links between Milan's fashion industry and China? That's a topic which will be discussed (or suppressed?) when it's all over and Italy is counting the cost.

I don't believe that the cases are fictitious. I do believe that the crisis is being used by governments (and possibly whoever pulls their strings) as an opportunity to practice what Fallen Saint describes below as martial law. The Chinese Government found it easy enough to control their people because the Chinese people are used to being controlled. All the pundits are praising the Chinese, describing the people's compliance as community spirit. I read that the guy in the WHO running the show on Coronavirus was China's preferred candidate for his WHO job.
