Sorry to have to tell you Padraig, but there will be a lot of forum members begging the Lord to restore you to health; otherwise what would happen to Mother of God Forum. Sorry bro. We can't let you go. Remembered Padraig and all forum members and their individual needs known to God at Holy Mass this morning...often do.
Well, the US had the long gasoline lines in the 1970’s. If your tag number ended in an odd number, you could only buy gas on an odd date. Same for the even numbers. I had to commute to work with those conditions. There’s nothing new under the sun. But I would still rather be prepared for possible self isolation, because there are unknowns with this illness.
Thank you. While I have not yet seen these in my diocese, I will certainly buy myself a larger bottle for Holy Water! Update-this may seem trite, but I am amazed how much the large empty 3oz bottle costs. Why not use some other cheap bottle, fill it & label?
I am doing good. Been a rough couple of years as you all know but felt a wonderful calling this Lent so really working hard on my relationship with God!
But we as Catholics also must obey. I hear you loud and clear but is it not better to obey and receive vs going without? I guess you could always just stand there with tongue out as normal and see what happens. I normally will take by mouth when a priest but not the laity delivering who has already placed it in their own hand and who really doesn't know what to do and looks on in disgust when I try to take it by mouth. My fear is they will drop it since not trained properly and since they don't want to touch my tongue. I have always struggled with this debate and ultimately believe God knows our hearts and true intentions. If communion by tongue only is the way then also it should only be administered by the priest or this is all pointless. Also the early church always took in in the hand so what changed? St. Cyril stated: “When thou goest to receive communion go not with thy wrists extended, nor with thy fingers separated, but placing thy left hand as a throne for thy right, which is to receive so great a King, and in the hollow of the palm receive the body of Christ, saying, Amen.” (Catechesis mystagogica V, xxi-xxii, Migne Patrologia Graeca 33) Also, I wonder what occurred at the Last Supper. We know that Christ fed Judas, but did the others break bread and pass it along or possibly feed each other? Then again these are priests so there is that.
Andy, A slight clarification: St. Cyril does instruct that the Sacred Host be placed on the palm of the hand (a type of throne), but unlike what is currently done in America, the Host was to be picked up by the tongue. Thus the fingers of the laity back then never touched the Sacred Host. O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!
Again, just don't see how taking by tongue by anyone other than a priest means it is has more respect.
I am in the same boat, even as a deacon. Though ordained to Holy Orders, a deacon's hands are not consecrated to service with the sacred oils. Still, my Pastor told me that as far as he is concerned, it is his preference (not always possible) that I distribute Holy Communion rather than a lay person. Safe in the Father's Arms!
Padraig, I think it may have been Maria Esperanza.... During these younger years Esperanza made the acquaintance of Padre Pio, the most famous mystic since Francis of Assisi, who had told people he expected to be visited by an extraordinary woman. "There is a young woman who is going to come from South America," Pio said. "When I leave, she will be your consolation." When finally they met, Maria would hear his "call" even though she was far away near Rome and she would head for his monastery at San Giovanni Rotundo on the barren east side of Italy - where despite throngs waiting to see him the aged priest called out, "Esperanza!" On September 23, 1968, Maria had a vision of Padre Pio. "Esperanza," he said in the vision, "I have come to say good-bye. My time has come. It is your turn." As this was happening Geo (Maria's husband) watched with amazement as his wife's face transfigured into that of the Italian priest. The next day they saw in the newspaper that Pio (whose funeral would be attended by more than a million) had died. One thing she had discussed with Pio when he was alive was her vision of a special plot of land where the Virgin Mary would appear. In the vision Maria had seen an old house, a waterfall, and a grotto. "From 1957 until 1974, we searched for this land in all of Venezuela," says Geo, who had oil concerns and a construction business in Caracas. Then came a visit from a friend who came to ask for help during a drought. The cattle on his land were stricken with hunger and Maria told Geo they should go see it. When they did, in March of 1974, they immediately fell in love with the picturesque hillside about an hour and a half from Caracas. "It corresponded exactly with the vision my wife had been given," says Geo of the land known as Betania. There was an old sugar mill on the land, and although it wasn't apparent at first, a stream and waterfall were also located on the property. Geo and his partners purchased the land and cleared the hillside. They saw it as a place for all faiths - not just Catholics. And Betania quickly became a sanctuary. _______________________________________________________________________________ Also though he had told those who came to visit him why they came to him when they had Luisa Piccarreta! “The world will be filled with Luisa…The third millennium will see her light.” — St. Padre Pio Blessed Padre Pio sent many people to Luisa Piccarreta and would say to the people of Corato who went to San Giovanni Rotondo: “What have you come here for? You have Luisa, go to her”.
I can see where you are coming from, but have a different take. Obedience is necessary yes, but each Catholic has the right to receive on the tongue according to Church law. In fact it is the ordinary form to receive (an indult had to be issued to allow reception in the hand; there are many places that do not have that indult). You also ask what has changed; I'd say ultimately the Church has matured in her appreciation of what the Eucharist is and the reverence due to Christ in the Eucharist while removing the danger of profanation.
I have also heard that St Cyril was addressing these words specifically to priests. Not lay people. And that he uses highly figurative language throughout the text, telling priests to bathe their eyes with the blood of Christ contained in the chalice.
I should say that I do try to take by tongue for Deacons too. Just the Eucharistic ministers I typically do not. Whenever I have tried in the past, its usually a disaster for me. They either get mad or touch my tongue. For me its such a joy killer to receive the Lord from a person who looks at me so angrily because I am standing there with my tongue out. I guess I should not care what they think but it just bothers me and I'd rather be full of joy upon receiving Him vs the alternative.
I am often so concerned when I receive on the tongue from a priest. It’s the norm but some do not think so, perhaps? I’m really nervous about it. It’s such a relief after I have received on the tongue! I realize that this post makes me sound like I am in middle school, but it’s true.
A deacon is considered an ordinary minister in the Catholic Church. ( as differentiated from Extraordinary Minister)
This article is well worth reading if you haven’t seen it yet. It seems to be a pretty strong argument to me. https://www.zerohedge.com/geopoliti...ts-linking-covid-19-hiv-wuhans-secret-bio-lab "What Are The Odds?" - A Timeline Of Facts Linking Covid-19, HIV, & Wuhan's Secret Bio-Lab
It could very well have been developed as asserted in your post, Brian. It could also have been accidentally released. I do believe that the Deep State and the Gates Foundation were doing the “pandemic rehearsal” in the Fall of 2019 because at some point they were going to target someplace with this virus as a bio weapon. Just my thinking at this point. And it’s also in the back of my mind: just who is developing a vaccine? Is it a true vaccine, or will it contain something to make people sicker and wipe out the population? I’m not getting deliriously happy when I hear a vaccine will be developed soon.
I was just thinking further along those lines that Heaven wanted this whole agenda to be exposed. “He who diggeth a pit shall fall into it.” Proverbs 26:27 It’s also in Ecclesiastes.
I have concerns about a vaccine as well. This is one of the companies that recently submitted a vaccine to the CDC for clinical trials: By Michael P. Norton, State House News Service Posted: Feb 24, 2020 / 09:31 PM EST / Updated: Feb 24, 2020 / 09:31 BOSTON (SHNS) – A Cambridge-based company has shipped vials of its novel coronavirus vaccine, which were manufactured at a plant in Norwood, to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) for further research. Moderna Inc. announced the news late Monday, saying its first batch of mRNA-1273 vaccine was funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and will be used by government researchers in what’s known as a Phase 1 Study at the National Institutes of Health. Everything surrounding the Coronavirus outbreak is dark, and suspicious. I want to be hopeful, but it will be difficult to trust a vaccine.
