"The least serious sins are the sins of the flesh": are we to take it that the whole issue of clerical sex abuse has been exaggerated?

It also might explain his lax attitude to immoral behaviour such as adultery & homosexuality -- if sins of the flesh are the least serious sins then 'who are we to judge'?

It explains his odd choice of Cardinals. They may be infamous Sexual Perverts but at least they pick up the plastic.

How convenient that he dismisses the main sin of which his particular group stands accused. I think this is what is known as classical 'clericalism'.

Perhaps the sin worse than sexual sin is Pride. Maybe a person struggling with say homosexuality or pornography would be more likely to repent than someone who sits in the front row at Mass and knows it all...just my very humble opinion.

Where are all these people? In my Church every Sunday, the front benches are always left vacant. I doubt we're any more shy than the average. It's the militant perverts who are the ones very publicly proclaiming their 'pride' and accusing those who disagree of being 'haters' and 'phobic'-if you're looking for modern pharisees, you need look no further than these self-righteous virtue-signallers. And it's not a sin to know things.

Didn’t mean to pick on the front row I meant the militant types even on twitter and in the media who do as much to divide the church as the liberals they point their fingers at. I find many of them so smug and judge mental. A Catholic stereotype I am always trying to fight against. I try to think if Jesus came back for a day who would He be more likely to have dinner with?

Well I will say Dante placed sins of the flesh higher in the rings of hell because they were sins of passion. In fact his guide Virgil has to berate him for being sympathetic to Francesca and Paulo who were adulterers. Later Dante realizes how hoodwinked he was and what grave sin really means. This poem of Dante's is as contemporary as today's headlines. It is a marvelous amazing work. I used to teach it to my students hoping some grace might accompany it on their behalf.

"Prostitutes and tax collectors are entering heaven ahead of you..." (paraphrase the scriptures when Jesus challenges the Pharisees)
Having said that both sins are abhorrent to Our Lord. Sins of the flesh destroyed his body in the scourging.

Yes "pride" is their emblem. I think the Pharisees of Jesus's time were the original virtue signalers. Lol.

I'm guessing the publicans. Humble and repentant sinners of every strata.

You need to be more specific. At a time when liberalism is completely dominant, I think it is necessary and laudable that there are people brave enough to loudly call it out. I can't think of any of those who are prepared to defend the unpopular truth who come across as 'smug'. Do you think it 'judgemental' to proclaim the truth against the dominant view? Who do you consider are these 'smug' people? Is it divisive to support what was the constant belief of The Church until the day before yesterday?

I would contend that those who downplay the sins of the flesh & impurity are those who are attached the most to these sins.

Because such sins are injurious to the soul and extinguish grace leading to spiritual blindness.

And of course no one disagrees that pride is a deadly sin too.

I am trying to give Pope Francis the benefit of the doubt and trying to understand what he is saying. I don’t refute that sins of the flesh are sins but perhaps he is calling us to really think deeply about sin and particular our own sins. I don’t know. My questions are genuine. I am confused and seeking like the rest but I am uncomfortable bashing the Pope. He was
Appointed by God and a part of God’s plan.

When Scriptures warn us that we are to 'flee sexual immorality' and that fornicators, adulters nor the effeminate shall enter the Kingdom of God yet Pope Francis says these sins are no big deal and we should not be too concerned about 'morality below the belt' = contradiction -

Is pointing out this contradiction really Pope bashing?

I prefer not to ignore such contradicions nor bury my head in the sand!!

Pope Francis' strategy seems to be to make a mess and leave us all in the dirt scratching our heads in utter bewilderment.

Pope Francis has sent over a 1000 hand picked, 'Missionaries of Mercy' out into the world. He has called them to Rome and has met each of them individually. They are hand picked.

I have only had a chance to watch and listen to them but they appear to have certain things in common.

Firstly they are clearly both homosexuals. Not only are they homosexuals but they are flamboyant homosexuals, what the LGBT community refer to as, 'Queens. ' The over the top in your face type.

The second thing I notice is that they are both brilliant communicators and very internet savvy.

The third thing I notice is that they do not preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Gospel they preach is basically a Leftist/ Liberal / Progressive quasi New Age Pink Cloud that basically says everyone is nice and we have to be nice to everyone. A kind of Democratic Party with a collar.

Why would the Holy Father send out such people to the Church?

Well it strikes me that there are several reasons.

Firstly to help normalise Sexual Perversion. To corrupt the Faithful.

The second reason is to undermine the Faith by presenting a False Gospel.

The third reason is to counteract Faithful Catholic commentators on the Internet who stick by the One True Faith.

Recall it is a Pope behind this and it is Satan standing grinning right behind him.

People say we are not good Catholics if we say such things.

I say we are not good Catholics if we do not say such things.

It's staring us all in the face.

When PF, if he really is the pope, said "Who am I to judge" allowing a priest involved in a drug fueled orgy to remain in the priesthood I made a judgement on PF, a complete phony. Phony mercy. His whole message is phony. He is a fraud sitting in the chair of Peter. The " spirit of Vatican 2" detached from any traditional Catholicism is simply satanic. As Jesus Christ said "get behind me satan".
