As I mentioned elsewhere, it was thanks to Our Lady of Fatima that I reverted to the Catholic Faith, but the day I did it was sometime in August just before the Feast of the Assumption. Earlier today, I was inspired to start meditating on the Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven, and planing on doing that all throughout August as a way celebrating my reversion as well as get more into the habit of meditation and contemplation.

I might post some of the stuff I meditate on here so that people here can comment on it, give me advice and make sure none of this stuff is erroneous. But for now, I want to ask if anyone here has any articles and resources on the Assumption that could be helpful for me and my meditations?

My family and I are planning to do a novena leading up to the feast of the Assumption later this month. I believe it starts tomorrow. We have never done it before and the idea came to us driving home from Mass this morning. There are so many huge intentions to pray for at the moment and I think the idea of a Novena appeals because there is power in novenas. I have done a little bit of searching around for one on the internet and the one we have chosen is this one, from the Little Sisters of the Assumption. Why not join us ?

I did think of devising our own novena. I am sure this is legit. On each of the 9 days, reflect on an event from Mary's life, followed by the litany of Our Lady and then the Memorare. That's the format that came to me. Does anyone have any good suggestions ?

Here’s something that I always think about as an afterthought but this year I want to recognize
St Maximilian Kolbe’s feast day is the 14th
    I always forget it
He was very devoted to the Immaculate Mother
And the rosary so I want to include him in my prayers this month

Totally agree with you there, HH. What a saint for these times. But yes, I tend to realise his feast day afterwards as well(I think because of the Assumption the next day). Surely no coincidence that he was executed on the eve of this special Marian feast, given his devotion to Our Lady ?

    Novena to the
    Assumption of the Virgin Mary

Mary, Queen Assumed into Heaven, I rejoice that after years of heroic martyrdom on earth, you have at last been taken to the throne prepared for you in heaven by the Holy Trinity.

Lift my heart with you in the glory of your Assumption above the dreadful touch of sin and impurity. Teach me how small earth becomes when viewed from heaven. Make me realize that death is the triumphant gate through which I shall pass to your Son, and that someday my body shall rejoin my soul in the unending bliss of heaven.

From this earth, over which I tread as a pilgrim, I look to you for help. I ask for this favor: (Mention your request).

When my hour of death has come, lead me safely to the presence of Jesus to enjoy the vision of my God for all eternity together with you.

Novena to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary II

Majestic Queen of Heaven and Mistress of the Angels, you received from God the power and command to crush the head of satan. Therefore, we humbly beg of you, send forth the legions of Heaven, that under your command they may seek out all evil spirits, engage them everywhere in battle, curb their pride, and hurl them back into the pit of hell. “Who is like unto God?”

With firm confidence we present ourselves before you, our most loving Mother, afflicted and troubled as we are, and we beg you to let us understand the love you have for us by granting this petition, if it is according to the Will of God and profitable for our salvation: (mention your request).

Good and tender Mother, you shall ever be our hope and the object of our love. Mother of God, send forth the Holy Angels to defend us and drive far from us the cruel foe.
Holy Angels and Archangels, defend and keep us.

I have a funny way of looking at the Assumption; every time I think of it I picture Mary asending in a glass elevator.

I find it mind blowing she went up bodily; just imagine

I like to imagine Our Lady floating upwards, being carried away from all the world's problems and troubles. It seeems nice! Then, she had to go through a heck of a lot to get to that point of floating away and up.

Yes, they say the thought of her son's passion never left her thoughts, a lesson for us

At each Greg Feast Day heaven rejoices; I think I can already feel them getting set for the Assumption.

I love the Assumption for itsi emphasis on the body. We are not a angels we have bodies and I think that is one of the reason s why Satan hates us so much

When I first began to pray this waz one of the first things I noticed how light and healthy my. Body seemed to be. Sad Catholic writers. Never mentioned the physical effects of prayer

I have to share that we did that novena ( finished on Tuesday evening) for what seemed like an utterly hopeless cause when we began it on 6th August. I am telling you, Our Lady came through for us. We won. One of my children was waiting on A level results to go and study medicine, but from how the exams went it seemed an impossibility. I would love to tell you more of the story but I value my anonymity on here, so suffice to say, despite the odds, this child of mine got the grades ( and some, unbelievably) and is off to study medicine in four weeks' time. This child of mine credits COMPLETELY our lady's intercession for the exam results. Praise God, we have a committed Catholic medical student going forward to help build a Civilisation of Love and who will stand up against the Culture of Death in our hospitals.

Masses of thanksgiving in order now. I am just in awe of what Our Blessed Mother wants to do for us. There is always always more We just have to ask. God wants to bless us abundantly.

For absolute certain, Padraig, Hence the term "possession". If he had his own body he wouldn't need to possess others. Three types of persons: 1. Divine 2. Angelic 3.Human. Only humans have bodies. The other two categories are spirit only. Jesus of course was 1. and 3.

So right, HH. I am realising that, as his child, I have often taken on an orphan mentality on everything, including spiritual and material blessings. This is a rich rich father who wants his sons and daughters to live in abundance. Ask for the impossible. As we have discovered first-hand this week, nothing is impossible for God.

Praise Him without ceasing, Padraig. He is our rescue and our strength. Pray for more young Catholics to respond to a vocation that is Pro-Life.
