    Hello,

I'm new here, and I'll be trying to focus mostly on praying for people here on the Prayer request sub-forum. I have been struggling with scrupulosity a lot in the past and have since overcome it for the most part. I try to listen to my conscience more and pray that Jesus and Mary enlighten it for me. However, I still struggle with second guesses, every now and, I'll wonder whether I'm right in believing it's me conscience I'm listening to, and whether or not, this or that thing I did in the past was really, just a venial sin, or no sin at all.

I'd like prayers that I overcome this scrupulous habit of second guessing, listen to my conscience more, and trust in God's Infinite Mercy.

    Thank you.

    Welcome :)

I suffer from scrupulosity as well. To give you some hope even saints such as St. Therese suffered from it. Scrupulosity is related to OCD. Part of OCD is intrusive and unwelcome negative thoughts. The good news is that OCD and possibly scruples as well can be overcome.

The difficult thing is that following your conscience is like listening to that "little voice in your head", but scruples and OCD is another "little voice in your head". Unfortunately this little voice is not a voice of guidance but of negative accusations. Even if you improve your behavior. The nasty little voice will find something else to accuse you with. Scrupulosity and OCD both can come and go, usually linked with stress in your life. In times of calm they may seem to go away, but when your stress levels rise they can become worse.

A good priest to guide you would be a good idea. Also there are materials on scrupulosity and OCD on the net that can help quite a bit. Nip this in the bud because scruples left unchecked can get worse. The more you focus on it, the worse it can become. It is able to be managed and handled though.

I didn't know that scupulosity is related to OCD, but it makes sense. One of my sons has OCD and the supplement inositol helped to greatly decrease his symptoms.

Welcome to MOG :) I will pray for you. I hope that you have a good spiritual adviser as Praetorian suggested. This I think would be invaluable for guidance in these matters especially.
    God bless you!

Thanks for the info on Inositol P4P (y) I hadn't heard of it, but just looked it up and may give it a try.

Second guessing ourselves can be a burdensome mindset created by the evil one. It can be hard to look for and find God's guidance at these times.

Rosary Wielder, I will add prayers of spiritual strength, and protection for you.

    Thanks everyone,

I think part of the problem comes from struggling past resentments. I won't go into details, but I have a lot personal issues in my life that I was struggling with, and then the Alfie Evans' story happened, and I just got really angry with what a couple of people said both during and after the atrocity. I think the it's the bad thoughts about it, and things I've said back than that are stirring up these fears.

I'm trying to calm down over this, please pray that I can forgive those people who said those things, and focus more on Jesus and Mary.
