You seem almost as confused as Pope Francis. Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels.
That's it. That is the nail on the head. That is how this Vatican operates. They do not directly contradict Church teaching (except when they do ) Everything is done with a wink and a nod. Sadly that is how authoritarian dictators operate. It is how the Mafia operates. They want nothing legally binding to tie them to anything they want to keep a certain distance from. Historians cannot find one scrap of paper with Hitler's signature on it that makes it irrefutably evident that he knew about the Holocaust. But does anyone seriously believe that something like that went on in his Third Reich without him knowing? Of course not. He could tell you what artillery battery was stationed on the hill on the north side of Stalingrad. There is a level of cunning going on here that the average person is only beginning to grasp.
I don't know. I know nothing about Mormonism other than that they have some sort of belief that dead people can be baptised. It appears to me that Modernism never went away but festered and spread first in Catholic academia and from there to the seminaries. Modernism is something of an umbrella term because it opens the way to all sorts of heresies. See Evolution of Dogma near the end of attached Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modernism_in_the_Catholic_Church Have you ever heard Pope Francis condemn modernism or accusing anyone of being a modernist? He's rather fond of accusing people of various heresies but I don't recall reading or hearing anything about him condemning modernism or modernists.
.. This is exactly what they believe. They also do not believe in the Trinity and taught for many years that Catholicism was of Satan which they have stopped doing for the most part now. All those baptisms they think they perform and in the name of what exactly?
How sad that this Holy Week has been dominated by news about what the pope said or didn’t say, while Christ is being crucified. Let’s pray for a heavenly intervention soon, the current situation is unsustainable, every truth of the Faith is being denied, watered down, confused or diluted with ambiguity and the excuse of the care for the immigrants, the poor, the sick. Man does not live on bread alone... Please Lord do not abandon your flock, come helps us!
I used to wonder why the First Part of the Fatima secrets (the vision of Hell) was a Secret! Because our Lady knew this dogma would come under attack! Our Lady showed us a great sea of fire which seemed to be under the earth. Plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human form, like transparent burning embers, all blackened or burnished bronze, floating about in the conflagration, now raised into the air by the flames that issued from within themselves together with great clouds of smoke, now falling back on every side like sparks in a huge fire, without weight or equilibrium, and amid shrieks and groans of pain and despair, which horrified us and made us tremble with fear. The demons could be distinguished by their terrifying and repulsive likeness to frightful and unknown animals, all black and transparent. This vision lasted but an instant. How can we ever be grateful enough to our kind heavenly Mother, who had already prepared us by promising, in the first Apparition, to take us to heaven. Otherwise, I think we would have died of fear and terror. Oh my Jesus forgive us our sins and save us from the fires of hell.
No one, not even a Pope has the authority to change the perennial teaching of the Church on a matter of dogma such as Hell. Certainly not in an interview. Our Lord taught about Hell. What Our Lord taught He meant. That is good enough for me. Our souls are immortal. They do not break down as our bodies do as the soul has no “moving parts” so to speak so they are not subjected to wear and tear. Souls cannot be annihilated if they are immortal. Many people may wish that Hell did not exist but it does. Scripture is very clear on this. In cases where someone calls into question Church teaching, no matter who that person is, or what Office th hold, stick to Scripture, the Catechism and the Church Fathers and you won’t go wrong.
Pope Francis is against any attempts to Proselytize. He makes clear if we dialogue we will all meet in heaven. This atheist has had numerous meetings with the vicar of Christ. Hows that working out?
The Pope did not say there was no such thing as hell. Frightening how many people are desperate to believe that he did say this. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-43596919
Whether he said it or not we don’t know, as the Vatican does not actually state that what Scalfari stated is false. But all this buzz is certainly a trick of diabolical origin to make us loose the peace needed in this hours to adore Our Lord and pray for the Church, family, friends, and many more. Interestingly, no one more than the Devil is interested in driving us away from praying for the Church, because every moment we do so his plans are being thwarted, and more souls are being saved. As a result of this confusion, I am going to pray today one mystery of the Rosary for our current Pope Francis. This I am certain will add to the Mary’s victory over the Father of Lies. I invite others to join, though I am sure many in this forum pray daily even more for our pope. After all, today is holy Saturday, and Mary’s day... This is a really good reading for the occasion: http://w2.vatican.va/content/benedi..._ben-xvi_spe_20100502_meditazione-torino.html The peace of Christ be with you too on this day.
Pope Francis proselytises all the time. He believes in "go teach all nations". He falls down at the part about "baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". "The Church is not there yet" is a favourite expression of Catholics (most notably products of some Jesuit colleges) who reject aspects of perennial Church teaching and are on a mission to fashion the Church into one of their making rather than starting a new church. That was the aim of the St. Gallen group. The St. Gallen group were dissenters from Church teaching. They set out to have a fellow dissenter of their choice elected to the papacy and they succeeded. Pope Francis most certainly proselytises. He proselytises to Catholics rooted in perennial Church teaching, sowing doubts, reopening discussion on settled Church teaching and practice. He is proselytising quite successfully the beliefs of the St. Gallen group. We see that success every time settled issues like women's ordination are reopened. Settled means settled. It doesn't and shouldn't mean open for discussion, discernment and development as a means of reversing it. Proselytise means to convert. Catholics are the target group for conversion. What Pope Francis and his cohorts are proselytising is a religion other than Catholicism. It's a religion of no absolute Truths. A religion of a changeable God. A religion with all the structures of Catholicism but one which can jettison anything which makes adhering to it uncomfortable or unpopular in a fallen world. The religion of the St. Gallen group will never have a "remnant" because it will always adapt to the spirit of the age. Divorce and remarriage are just the start. Eventually it leads to a system of belief which elevates man to believing he is his own God. "The Church is not there yet" but it is being led in that direction. All it takes is some more "discernment", "accompaniment" and above all a brand of "mercy" which permits everything the spirit of the age permits. What it takes most of all is the silence of those who should speak up. Four Cardinals spoke. Two have gone to their eternal reward. How many will go to eternal punishment for their silence? Most will be in for a surprise when they realise that hell does exist and that eternal punishment means exactly what Jesus said it is - unending suffering. The fruits of St. Gallen are all around us for those with eyes to see and ears to hear. Pope Francis is no unifier of Christendom. His mission is to unite the Church with the World, marginalising from their Church Catholics who are already being marginalised by the World.
What's frightening is that this is the second time the same journalist friend of the Pope has reported that the Pope did say that there is no eternal punishment for the damned. Twisting it to say that the Pope never said that hell doesn't exist is not a clarification. Even if no human soul ever ended in Hell, it would still exist because that's where the fallen angels went. If the Pope didn't tell Scalfari (twice) that unsaved human souls are annihilated, what is stopping the Pope saying that Scalfari lied; that Hell exists; that the souls of damned humans go there and suffer there for all eternity? It's the Pope who needs to come out straight and say this. Not Fr. Spadaro; not Fr. Martin; not an already discredited Vatican communications department; not some piano teacher cum theologian; and not you surmising based on a few sentences on the BBC website. Pope Francis got himself into this mess and Pope Francis alone needs to get himself (and the Church he has been misleading for five years) out of it. What is frightening is that we have a Pope who won't affirm and defend the faith.
Mac, This particular video from Michael Matt is very well done in my opinion. BrianK, I did a search on MOG to see if this was discussed in May 2015 and it turns out that it was. Member Peter B. states on the following post that this also occurred in September 2014, #837 . That would be a least three instances of Scalfari writing an article which states that the Pope does not believe that unrepentant sinners go to Hell. Bella, I don't know what the Vatican means by "a faithful transcription" in the following quote from the BBC article and it doesn't appear to be a firm enough statement , The quote came in an article in Italy's La Repubblica daily. But the Vatican said "no quotations" in the article "should be considered as a faithful transcription" of the Pope's words. What I believe is even more suspect is that Pope Francis continues to speak out about "fake news" but yet he continues to meet with Scalfari, therefore the Pope is allowing Scalfari to continue to write "fake news" about him. The only thing that would make sense to me to understand this would be if the Pope is not aware that this is going on but then I would have to admit that he is not very bright, I mean who would meet with a journalist regularly and not read what he writes. I suppose what I am trying to say is that something about this is very amiss, we don't exactly what that something is but there is definitely something not right about all of this. On a final note, it is interesting to me that many of us are wondering if the prophecies of Our Lady of Fatima are coming to fruition at the present time and Our Lady of Fatima specifically spoke of Hell and also showed the seers a vision of Hell. It is also interesting to note that as we approached the 100th Anniversary of Fatima last May, Scalfari was not having conversations with the Pope on the topic of Hell but now that we are almost a year past this anniversary the topic has sprung up once again.
Exactly! This pope’s 3 warnings about Hell are in opposition to the three times he has let this atheistic Communistic journalist report that he said there is no Hell. Which garnered more headlines? Think this pope doesn’t know that?!? Judge him not by what he says (to keep average Catholics asleep but still in the pews, to “pray, pay and obey.”) Judge him by what he DOES. Which is repeated interviews like this, promoting and protecting homosexuals, promoting sacrilege against the Eucharist in AL, undermining Humanae Vitae, attacking faithful orthodox Catholics, etc. https://aleteia.org/2018/03/30/3-times-pope-francis-warned-about-hell/
