It is spooky, Don, and thank you for warning everyone although I think the warning may be too late for most of us, myself included. I see people around me with Google Home. The device is intrusive enough but the app surely opens everybody on the person's contact list to Google's voice recognition. They read our emails, track our online activities, and now can recognise our speech.
AED, chances are your TVs are NOT internet-connected. You can see if there is a cord plugged into the back of the TV (not the power cord) that goes to the same router (box) that your computer connects to. Nowadays, though, you don't need to have a cable physically connect to a wall outlet for a TV to be "internet enabled". Many of the TVs use wireless connections to connect to the router wirelessly and so reduce cable clutter. Quite well, thank you. It was designed to work with the "Internet of Things" (IoT). Not just TVs and laptops have wireless connectivity. I've seen demos online (check out videos for the recent CES show in Las Vegas) of a refrigerator which will keep track of items inside and can suggest recipes based on what you have. There are also washers and driers that will text you when done, and of course home heating and cooling systems. Each and every one of these things can be hacked. Most likely, they won't be turned against you, but they can be used as "bots" (robots) to generate traffic, overload different websites and keep people from using them (called a DDOS -- a "distributed denial of service" attack.) Norton Core works to keep that stuff from happening to your IoT devices. Reminds me of a time way back then in the 70's here. A group of us were chatting in a pub and the subject of listening came up. I had the idea of every phone in the country being listened in on. The idea of course was thought quite mad as it seemed we here in Ireland would not have such technology. Needless to say most people who wanted to keep things private thought public phone's were safe. Not so as it turned out to my information as I knew someone who ended up in prison for using a public box. Same thing really today as to using a public phone. Why would anyone use one of those now when we all have mobiles. Looking about even small town now we have to notice of cameras being place strategically. Just goes to show of the world we live in. All secrets to which have to be monitored by those we give power to to keep us safe. Most of what we have lived in our live has been a lie methinks. None as enslaved as those who think they are free. Just reading something of some new metal towers going up in New York. No information on that by those who are putting them up. Just like those big signs on our Motorway's. I was at a gathering last night and heard a Priest has been newly assigned to a local parish here very recently. I had heard they have a new priest but nothing about him. Apparently he is viewed as "orthodox" Catholic (rather than very liberal) and has received of all things, death threats. I was floored though maybe I shouldn't be. That's all I'm saying. It is hearsay as I am not a parishioner there, but WOW. I do trust the source as she is of "orthodox" Catholic viewpoints. Pray for my diocese! There are definitely a few liberal churches here. So far, I very much like my newer Bishop. I posed the question of what they are viewing "orthodox". I have a couple of times mentioned where I live and not received any comments from members telling me they are also from here. Therefore, this should be remaining anonymous with the intention it has, being a concerned observation.
Anyone interested in the Q posts can read them at the site I will link to.
