A group representing Catholic laity in Germany has also come out urging the Church to perform ceremonies for homosexual unions. The Bishop stepped in in that case because it made the papers, just as the Bishop in Spain spoke out after the event of a priest there having a Mass for a couple of women directly after their civil "marriage". In both cases, the Bishops said something after it made the papers and presumably after faithful Catholics objected. It stretches the bounds of credibility to believe that these "blessings" aren't taking place right across Europe and possibly in some US States. It wouldn't be unheard of for Bishops to encourage the leaders of lay organisations to fly kites on behalf of the Bishops. It would be hard to convince me that the "Catholic Spring" in the US wasn't such a case orchestrated by influential people in the Church both in North and Latin America. The Vice-Chairman of the German Bishops' Conference has called on the Church to perform wedding-like ceremonies for same sex unions - effectively legitimising and calling on God to bless sodomy. You will note from the second link that they give a list of "friendly" Bishops, among them Cardinal Schonborn whom Pope Francis promoted as the person best placed to interpret Amoris Laetitia. Cardinal Schonborn is Austrian and there isn't a hair's breadth between the attitudes of the German and Austrian Bishops. In both countries they like the Church to be in lockstep with the State and where there's a conflict they prefer that the Church bend to suit the State. In the Church as in the EU, the Austrians often act as a mouthpiece for the Germans. They almost never adopt opposing stances. Money matters a great deal to the Germans. No doubt the German Bishops see the Church tax being vulnerable now that gay marriage has been legalised and they are getting their ducks in a row to protect it by having the Church change the practice underpinning the Doctrine.
I have been thinking about these blessings ceremonies and what they might confer on those who receive them. At a glance such a blessing confers nothing but the blessing of misled men on those who receive them because we know the object of the blessing to be invalid in God's design and an abomination in fact. We can see this truth by simple reason alone. It is discouraging that some in the Church who administer and invoke such blessings have lost their way. God will not be mocked and this is obviously a mockery of both His design, His Church, and what is pleasing to Him. In a spirit of Charity this could have the potential to bring people to the Truth and turn them from their sin if it is pleasing to Him and if one understands that our sin inflects and makes possible great suffering on our part which turns us to Him or further hardens our hearts. It seems to me an act of Love in which He makes this possible. I don't think anyone really expects a desired outcome. We must not let it lead us to despair and if we are discouraged we must pray for the Gift of Fortitude. Things such as this are heralded by the world and despised by the Faithful and many will fall into despair and in turn away from the Church. We must not fall away and we must encourage others not to as well. We know that though the best of the Ministers of the Sacraments are men and sinful that it is Christ Himself who is at work in the Sacraments. So, regardless of all these things and the many more which will come that until the Sacrifice is stopped or changed drastically from the Bread and Wine offered up we know that it is all the rocking of the Ship in this storm we are in. We must endure in Faith lest we sink into the waves.

I have not had any problem staying awake and attentive so far but we will see in the coming weeks. Last week Father's Homily outlined some teachings he said he would be speaking about further. Directly relating to the family and the dangers which are affecting the youth of today. The reasons for the decline in the Church, vocations and especially the resulting despair of the young today with the second leading cause of death in college age adults being suicide. Citing many things such as social media as well as the often misunderstood stance on gays as viewed by the young. I am interested to hear his teaching on these things. He made very valid points regarding the immersion into the online world. One which a great deal of us never knew and should be very leery of with our children.
This Sunday's Old Testament readings are about doing God's will, God's law being written on our hears, and announcing God's justice "to the vast assembly". The epistle is about our bodies belonging to God; about us being members of Christ and our spirit being one with His. It warns us against immorality, saying that all other sins are outside the body but that sins of immorality are sins against our body (members of Christ's body) and tells us to glorify God in our body which has been "purchased at great price". The Gospel is where Jesus renames Simon after Andrew had brought Simon to Jesus. I sometimes wonder whether in about ten years or less we will look back on the past thirty years and see it in hindsight as the era of peace promised at Fatima.
