I would go further than that and say that the majority of Catholics have never even heard of infallibility, much less know what it means. Most today don't even know the 10 commandments. Most don't understand the Sacrifice of the Mass and that is why when it changes and the sacrifice is removed from the mass, which essentially becomes a protestant celebration, they won't even bat an eye, because they are clueless. I agree with you that the average Catholic would follow anyone priest, bishop or pope if it does not challenge their life style. That is why our deacon in a homily a few weeks ago stated that we should not fear the Lord and their is no hell. This tickled the ears of those lukewarm Catholics who may have been drunk the night before, or who have no problem missing Mass on on Sunday, or in the case of adultery they are now fine in their sin. All of this is due to the apathy and apostasy of many, if not most, of the clergy for decades now. It is to late now to bring them back into the light of truth. Seems to me the the Warning is the only hope left for the salvation of souls. God have mercy on those who die before this time.
Sadly there is much truth in this. Catholics are so poorly catechized today. Really not catechized almost at all. It is no wonder there is such apostasy. Modern man's outlook is so worldly and warped it is very hard to explain the truth to them. It is like describing something completely alien. We live in post-Christian times in many ways. At least in the Western world. Unless God gives them the grace to see the truth they will remain blind. This is why praying for them is so essential now! It will give them the grace!
How true, how sad. What I hear from the pulpit is that it up to us the lay people to evangelize. I asked my Parish Priest over a year ago if he would come to our house yo Bless it. Every time I see him he is too busy. Still waiting . . . I asked if there was a bible study or something like that I could take my non-Catholic husband to. He gave me a set of cd's to listen to on the Gospel of Matthew. No wonder people are leaving in droves, they only talk about how much we can give to the diocesan fund or buy raffle tickets for fund raisers, and then finish Mass with a joke from the pulpit. It's disheartening . . .
Yes it is disheartening. Hard to picture St Jean Vienney getting bogged down with such things. That is why we must offer sacrificial prayer continuously for priests. They are being sidelined and neutralized by wordly demands and responsibilities. They need the grace to embrace "only one thing is necessary" and just serve souls to snatch them from the evil one. How conflicted they must be and how discouraged. O Mary Mother of the Clergy please put them all under the crossing of your arms.
My personal thought is that it won't go on much longer. As the "left" becomes more "left" the mainline Catholics who believe will become more fervent. There may be fewer of us, but we have the faith. Like yourself I live in a liberal wasteland which is why I need to turn to the internet to find like-minded Catholics. Don't lose hope, all will come right in the end! We are just at the nadir of faith right now...
So true Praetorian. I am that liberal wasteland right along with you. God bless MOG. It has been a lifeline.
The MOG forum has the net made with our Lord's own hands, worthy to keep the faithful together. Cus we all know our liberal neighbors can't break through his holy knots. I thank God for all here on the forum, I do believe that God led me to you to help strengthen my fortress.
The anonymous blog of the cross came back after being deleted by the author, I do not know if it is reliable, but the blog has a lot of information about what could happen in the Church in the coming months.
It was credibly reported among Catholics who are well connected as a disinformation site. Take everything there with a grain of salt.
EWTN has been very, very good. I suspect Mother Angleica's suffering and the sacrifice of her life kept it pure and holy.
Definitely. You really said it when you spoke of her suffering and sacrifice. She suffered for YEARS. They have a nightly Rosary at 9:30 pm EDT where she is on video reciting the Rosary with her nuns,. She recited it slowly and meaningfully. I like to recite with her. And the pictures, most of them, enhance the prayer.
It is almost 90 today but you and I both know a mere two months from now we will PAY! And it's not global warming. It is just Maine where we say "don't like the weather? Wait 5 minutes. "
This could have been written yesterday. I fear for the Mass. What are they preparing in Rome? Sacred Heart of Jesus save us!
Agreed, I too fear for the Mass, the loss of the faithful and for the priests that will be bearing weight of truth alone. May our God have mercy on us all.
Ma. too. As Samuel Clemens wrote from Ct., "If you don't like the weather in New England, wait five minutes, it will change."
