U.S. Launches Missiles at Syria After Chemical Weapons Attack

The United States launched dozens of cruise missiles Thursday night at a Syrian airfield in response to what it believes was Syria's use of banned chemical weapons that killed at least 100 people, U.S. military officials told NBC News.

Two U.S. warships in the Mediterranean Sea fired 59 Tomahawk missiles intended for a single target — Ash Sha'irat in Homs province in western Syria, the officials said. That's the airfield from which the United States believes the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fired the banned weapons.

There was no immediate word on casualties. U.S. officials told NBC News that people were not targeted and that aircraft and infrastructure at the site were hit, including the runway and gas fuel pumps.

He asked God to bless America and the whole world just before firing all those missiles. I am sorry but I wonder if God, looking down from heaven and watching those missiles exploding blessed us all for it? I wonder if that is what God wanted?

Or to put it another way, I wonder if it was God's Will that those missiles be fired?

Well, the rest of the world has just sat by and watched Syria's suffering over the past few years. I am personally in support of what Trump has done in responding. Assad needs taking out. Catholic teaching from Aquinas supports this because he is a serious threat to the peace and and stability of the world. Sometimes to be a peacemaker, you do have to stand up and fight the bully. Peace doesn't just fall out of the sky- we have to create peace. I thank God for Trump's courage.

 

I like what you say but I think peace is far off for us now. We are heading now into a world war we will see much suffering we need our warning from God and hopefully enough of turn back to God to ease our chastisement which will happen. It's been foretold for centuries what's coming and we are now at the cusp.

These events tie in so well with prophesy, especially contemporary ones. Its as though we are all being dragged down some huge drain hole.

 

One thing is for certain and no one on this forum has spoken to it and that is whether the world can sit back any longer and let evil men kill by deadly illegal gases more innocent babies, children, women and men. War is the result of sin and this time these sinful dictators were given a 'sound off' that it is not going to be tolerated. Bombing one airports runways is the most compassionate target for Trump to hit to get a message across that if Assad kills innocent people again, the next missiles may well come in his bedroom window.

 

I have read from some credible sources that the chemical attack was talked about on twitter by enemies of Assad the day before it happened, and so it may not have really been Assad who carried out the attack. He may have been framed to provoke us into attacking. I am not sure what to think about it. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

 

I heard a commentator on the news last night that said what made the chemical weapon use different this time around is that the entire incident was captured on video (via satellite? I don't know). It supposedly shows Syrian airplanes dropping the bombs, obvious detonation, then images of men, women and children pouring out of their homes in an effort to escape the gas.

I'm not sure about possible framing of Assad. The Middle East is such a different culture and environment. It's hard to believe that someone would gas their own citizens in a bid to maintain submission and control, but I suppose it could happen.

I don't ever think that the general public have all the answers because so much goes on behind the scenes. We just end up with more questions.

 

If a bomb is falling through the air and you see it, how do you tell it is a chemical bomb rather than an ordinary bomb? The answer of course is that you can't. The only thing you can tell is that when the bombs hit the ground chemicals are released.

When chemicals are released when they hit the ground does this necessarily mean the chemicals were in the bomb itself?

No not really . The chemicals could have been a Rebel Chemical Weapons dump which the bomb hit causing the chemicals to be released. We now that both the Syrian Government and the rebels have both used chemicals in the past.
Do we think that ISIS for instance would not employ such weapons?

Now my question would be this. What proof is there that these bombs actually contained chemicals (other than the fact that chemicals were released when the bomb hit the target)? How do we know whether or not this was a chemical dump that was hit?

I wouldn't ask but we have been through all this before in the phantom WMD , 'Intelligence' in the Iraq War.

Russia is sending a frigate into the eastern Mediterranean into the vicinity of the two US destroyers that launched the cruise missiles into Syria. A confrontation is possible.
