Oh you are totally correct on that. 100% The Pope can change canon law at will. St. Pope Pius X did it. St. Pope John Paul II did it. The only restriction on that is that he cannot change it to something that contravenes Divine Law. Oops! There is that pesky Divine Law getting in the way again. And that is precisely why a change to canon law in this matter has not been made and will never be attempted.
One of the Prophesies from Garabandal..as far as I can recall. ..is that the hosts would leave the Tabernacles all over the world. If their is no mass there are no hosts. Only now do I understand this prophecy.
I am glad to hear he is , 'Not on tranquilisers ' . He may yet put me on them https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-he-shrugs-off-stress-im-not-on-tranquilisers
It seems from much approved prophecy and the Bible as well that at some point along here the Mass may be altered to such an extent that Transubstantiation will not take place. I wonder if as a punishment that even priests who say the Mass correctly using the older rites will not be able to confect the sacrament. Please everyone do your First Fridays and First Saturdays now while there is till time!!! They may be the only sure means left to save your soul. Don't put them off or wait!
You are totally correct Padraig. Any good priest will tell us that the Mass has always been the devil's main target. The devil's dream is to eradicate the Mass from the world.
No, the Church CANNOT change discipline that violates doctrine. Not even a pope has the authority to do that. You're spreading falsehoods that endanger the eternal souls of members and lurkers at MOG. Take it elsewhere.
I wish to state this just so that I am clear to anyone who may read this thread in the future. In my above post where I said David was correct 100%. I meant that he is right in the fact that the Pope has the right to change canon law. I hope I was clear in pointing out that the Pope cannot change canon law in areas where it violates doctrine. That is the point I was trying to make, but perhaps I did not say it in as straightforward a way as Brian did. I do not want anyone misled by my words.
Well, one thing is very obvious to me. This is not meant towards anyone specific on MOG, but I must say, it is obvious it won't be hard for the devil to convince 90% or more of the baptized Catholics to apostatize from one or more doctrines of the faith. It has been so dumbed down by our bishops and priest for the past 50 years that most would not know a truth from a lie. Most could not even tell you the 10 commandments, let alone know a doctrine from a discipline or from a protestant teaching for that matter. If anyone thinks this poor state of catechisis of the Catholic faithful is not ripe for the Antichrist, I have a bridge over the ocean to sell you.
A person cannot be in mortal sin and in the state of sanctifying grace (read Father Hardon's Catholic Dictionary definition I posted above). Impossible!! They can be in grave sin, but.... The Catholic dictionary states: It is enough that one knows that what one intends to do may be a mortal sin, but does it anyhow. Indifference to the laws of God is equivalent to disobeying them. Okay, lets use Pope Francis statement of ambiguity for the sake of discussion. Say a divorced and remarried person does as the pope suggests and examines their conscience and goes for a consultation with a priest to discern if he/she can receive communion. The Church clearly teaches they are in grave sin within the act of adultery. Lets further say, the person was born within the past 50 years, so their catechisis was from Father Nice and Father, Father Social Justice and Sister Indifferent so they were totally clueless as to the sin of adultery. He goes to Father New Age and he tells the person in adultery that its okay to still go to communion. At what point does the person in adultery enter in to moral sin? Surely, the priest is in mortal sin, as they know what the church has always taught and he refuses to teach the fullness of faith in this area. I can't imagine anyone not knowing the church teachings that divorce and remarriage is anything but adultery, but I guess it is possible since we have had so many bad priests, bishops, faith formation directors and parents over the years. Now, if Pope Francis feels we have such a problem with the divorced and remarried not knowing the churches doctrine on divorce and remarriage, then why does he not make an ultimatum to all bishops and priest to get the word out in homilies and diocesan newspapers so the faithful can know clearly the 6th commandment and Christ's teaching on adultery? I think we know why.
Of course they can change Cannon Law, because this is human, not divine law. However, as it has been said, nothing in cannon law can exist that is contrary to divine law (doctrines), which giving anyone communion who is divorced and remarried (living in adultery) clearly in opposition to the divine law.
Because the current alleged prophetic consensus is so strongly warning the church of its current dangers, I am posting this on this thread to help those who are confused with all the back and forth. Pedro Regis Messages 4425 - Message of Our Lady Queen of Peace, February 4, 2017. Dear children, days of darkness will come and the faithful will drink the bitter cup of suffering. Do not retreat. You are living in the time of the Great and Sorrowful Spiritual Tribulation. Bend your knees in prayer. You are heading towards a painful future. The Church of My Jesus will be weakened and the faithful will drink the bitter cup of suffering. The bad shepherds will act without mercy and the true defenders of the faith will be despised. Announce Jesus and do not allow the devil to win. After all the tribulation, the Church of My Jesus will go back to being as Jesus entrusted her to Peter. The false church will spread its errors and will contaminate many, but the Grace of My Lord will be with His True Church and She will be victorious. Do not be discouraged. I will be by your side and will pray to My Jesus for you. Seek strength in Prayer and the Hearing of the Gospel. Be reconciled with God through the Sacrament of Confession and nourish yourself with the precious food of the Eucharist. Love and defend the truth. Whoever remains faithful to the end will experience the Victory of God. Go forward without fear. This is the message I give you today in the name of the Most Holy Trinity. Thank you for having allowed Me to gather you here once more. I bless you, in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Be at peace.
Thanks, Ed, for that beautifully written explanation. It's so much easier to understand another person's perspective when they have the manners to give their reasoning rather than making a bald like-it-or-lump-it statement which suggest that the person holds to a belief but is incapable of defending that belief. I need to reflect on your post because, on first reading, I'm not sure whether it conflicts with the Church Fathers as quoted in AED's post (see below) or whether it's really only a matter of how the interpretations are worded rather than there fundamental meaning. Most likely I'll be back with more questions later because I have a tendency to keep asking until I finally get things straight in my head. Thanks, too, for the kind offer of advice to help me with my pathetic gardening efforts,. Don't be surprised to get a message from me in a few weeks' time when the weather warms up. To my shame, I'm strictly a fair weather, least amount of effort kind of gardener.
So this may sound dumb or perhaps naive, but don't you think that a person that is in a second marriage and still goes to church and receives communion really cares what the Church's true teachings are? They pretty much think the Church is still living in the dark ages. And for those individuals who are in a second marriage and then converted to Catholicism, were they not being told during RCIA that they are in an adulterous situation. And for those who were falling away Catholics that came back to the Church, what were they being told when they came back. This "news" of allowing communion to divorced and remarried is only a yer old. This is very much like the drug epidemic we are facing. We obviously have problem with current addicts. We have to deal with them, but lets not keep creating new addicts by making the drugs still available to them. Rehab is hard, very hard. There is no two ways about it. These people who are in difficult circumstances need to make some very hard decisions. Did Jesus not teach that we must deny ourselves and follow him. So many parables in the bible can relate to this. But this is what we must do.
Some people here are fond of quoting Pope St. John Paul, and not always in context. Here's what he said in Familiaris Consortio about Communion for the divorced and remarried (see Part Four) http://w2.vatican.va/content/john-p..._jp-ii_exh_19811122_familiaris-consortio.html As is clear from the text I have highlighted below, the decision to deny Communion to remarried divorcees is a re-affirmation of a practice based on Sacred Scripture. How can any Pope or Synod have the authority to permit something that "objectively contradicts that union of love between Christ and the Church which is signified and effected by the Eucharist"? Scripture hasn't changed. Human nature hasn't changed. 2000 years of Church teaching thrown on the scrapheap due to a change in personnel. The smoke of Satan is spreading from the Vatican to the universal Church. e) Divorced Persons Who Have Remarried 84. Daily experience unfortunately shows that people who have obtained a divorce usually intend to enter into a new union, obviously not with a Catholic religious ceremony. Since this is an evil that, like the others, is affecting more and more Catholics as well, the problem must be faced with resolution and without delay. The Synod Fathers studied it expressly. The Church, which was set up to lead to salvation all people and especially the baptized, cannot abandon to their own devices those who have been previously bound by sacramental marriage and who have attempted a second marriage. The Church will therefore make untiring efforts to put at their disposal her means of salvation. Pastors must know that, for the sake of truth, they are obliged to exercise careful discernment of situations. There is in fact a difference between those who have sincerely tried to save their first marriage and have been unjustly abandoned, and those who through their own grave fault have destroyed a canonically valid marriage. Finally, there are those who have entered into a second union for the sake of the children's upbringing, and who are sometimes subjectively certain in conscience that their previous and irreparably destroyed marriage had never been valid. Together with the Synod, I earnestly call upon pastors and the whole community of the faithful to help the divorced, and with solicitous care to make sure that they do not consider themselves as separated from the Church, for as baptized persons they can, and indeed must, share in her life. They should be encouraged to listen to the word of God, to attend the Sacrifice of the Mass, to persevere in prayer, to contribute to works of charity and to community efforts in favor of justice, to bring up their children in the Christian faith, to cultivate the spirit and practice of penance and thus implore, day by day, God's grace. Let the Church pray for them, encourage them and show herself a merciful mother, and thus sustain them in faith and hope. However, the Church reaffirms her practice, which is based upon Sacred Scripture, of not admitting to Eucharistic Communion divorced persons who have remarried. They are unable to be admitted thereto from the fact that their state and condition of life objectively contradict that union of love between Christ and the Church which is signified and effected by the Eucharist. Besides this, there is another special pastoral reason: if these people were admitted to the Eucharist, the faithful would be led into error and confusion regarding the Church's teaching about the indissolubility of marriage. Reconciliation in the sacrament of Penance which would open the way to the Eucharist, can only be granted to those who, repenting of having broken the sign of the Covenant and of fidelity to Christ, are sincerely ready to undertake a way of life that is no longer in contradiction to the indissolubility of marriage. This means, in practice, that when, for serious reasons, such as for example the children's upbringing, a man and a woman cannot satisfy the obligation to separate, they "take on themselves the duty to live in complete continence, that is, by abstinence from the acts proper to married couples."[180] Similarly, the respect due to the sacrament of Matrimony, to the couples themselves and their families, and also to the community of the faithful, forbids any pastor, for whatever reason or pretext even of a pastoral nature, to perform ceremonies of any kind for divorced people who remarry. Such ceremonies would give the impression of the celebration of a new sacramentally valid marriage, and would thus lead people into error concerning the indissolubility of a validly contracted marriage. By acting in this way, the Church professes her own fidelity to Christ and to His truth. At the same time she shows motherly concern for these children of hers, especially those who, through no fault of their own, have been abandoned by their legitimate partner. With firm confidence she believes that those who have rejected the Lord's command and are still living in this state will be able to obtain from God the grace of conversion and salvation, provided that they have persevered in prayer, penance and charity.
The world has taught its people that religion, especially that of the Catholic faith, is outdated. The clergy overwhelmingly have not taught the doctrines of the faith for 50 years. The apathy of the laity is a reflection of the watered down social justice messages we have been getting in our church for 25 years. RCIA is only as good as the pastor of the parish. Most are a joke of feel good theology! We are in a crisis of faith, because the once faithful have taken the apple of the forbidden fruit. The baptised have bought the subtle lies and water-downed faith to the point where nearly everyone, even those with good intentions, would buy anything they are hearing from their lukewarm priests and society. I have talked with 80 year old ladies who go to daily mass and pray the rosary, yet have no problem with gay marriage, as they have bought the lie that "they are God's children too", as if this makes their "love choice" no different than God's design for husband and wife. Society has been made to accept this false tolerance of evil. We are ripe for the AC.
I can remember a long time ago when I was sitting in a confessional with my parish priest and after I told him of a very difficult situation I was facing, he held his ground and would not budge on the true teachings of the Church. Needless to say I was full of tears and sobbing, only God knows what the next person in line was thinking about what was going on in the confessional, but I will tell you truly, it made me do some very long and hard soul searching that put me on the long path back to God. Yes it affected my marriage, but it probably saved my soul and that of my children's. Had I not followed his advise, I probably would have raised my children with a very liberal ideology of the faith.
