God help Kathy Shelton. Having watched a couple of videos about the case. I have to ask the question why was the prosecutor in this case not exposed for letting Kathy Shelton down. Who was the prosecutor. It appears Hilary Clinton was doing her job in defence of a rapist. Clinton laughing about the process where the evidence was thrown away after testing was way out of order. But Clinton can't be blamed for that. How did the prosecutor who should have been defending a 12 year old Kathy Shelton get away with such a travesty of justice.
The morality of being a lawyer must be very tangled. I could not imagine myself defending someone who I beleived to be guilty in any circumstance.
I come from Billary Land ....... I have watched these people for 30+ years and have no doubt that they "Walk with satan" .... the smoke and stench of Evil surrounds them ... just another Sign to get Prepared!! GOD SAVE ALL HERE!!
Padraig, the Vatican uses a similar process when deciding if someone is a saint or not. We have all heard the term 'the devils advocate.' I believe that is where it comes from. Ordinary Catholics would not qualify for this job. LOL I expect they use canon lawyers and one prosecutes (devils advocate) and tries to find flaws in the character of the candidate for sainthood; while the other defends the character of the candidate for sainthood. Or so I heard. The process in civil/criminal law or canon law, aims to arrive at the truth so just judgement can be reached.
I don;t think I would find it hard to work to find the truth , Julia. I think though I would prefer the Europen court model as compared to the Birtish/ Amriecan advesarial one. In Europe they collaborate to seek the truth. I suppose th ebst way seems to be the way when we die when we kind of convict ourselves by being confronted by the truth. I suppose th best court system is a bit like this. Facing people with the truth.
A lawyer may suspect his client is guilty but if the client admits to his lawyer that he is guilty then the lawyer cannot defend him. That's the regulations
Yes Mary there is the Law that is in the head, but then again there is the law that is ion the heart. There is a story told about Abraham Lincoln. One time a Senator asked him to find a job in Government of a certina man and Abe told him ot send the applicant on to see him. Later on the Senator asked the President why he had refused to give the gentleman the job. To which Lincoln replied that he did not like the look of the fellows face. The Senator was horrified but aaaaaaabraham Lincoln replied that the soul of everyone over the age of everyone is writtne plainly on their face. I told this to a very, very saintly pries topne time and he was horrifed and denied this. But I think Linclon was quiite right and its often quite possibel by looking at people to tell they are relaly no good. Well How could you defend someone you could see was just a rotten no good scoundrel? Clearly you couldn;'t. If you don't beleive me look at the face of Lincoln as he got older. Every day of the suffering of the Civil War was written large on his poor face.
Oscar Wilde tells a story along the same lines as Abe Lincoln, it is called, 'The Painting of Dorian Grey'.
I have a personal angle on this as some members of my family practise law but not criminal law. I do know that they go to great lengths to see that a story stacks up and have turned away cases where there were obvious lies. The story with Hillary and the rapist is a disgrace on the face of it if she knew him to be guilty. I think most lawyers would have told him to plead guilty and try get a reduced sentence if it was a first time offence. It's very hard profession. Like everything a few rotten eggs give everybody a bad name
St Paul in one passage warns the Early Christians not to be bringing their fellow Christians to a secular court, reminding them that they are, 'To Judge the world' and asks then, this ebing so why they should go to unblievers for judgement? 1 Corinthians 6:1 Lawsuits among Believers 1If any of you has a grievance against another, how dare he go to law before the unrighteous instead of before the saints! 2Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?… This again I think is along the lines Abraham Lincoln was indicating...that we all know more than we maybe think we do...
I suppose at the end of the day, Mary all that we do in this world is a mere shadow of the perfection of all that we will do perfectly in the world to come. As St Paul says, , 'Now we see in a glass darkly but then, face to face....' 1 Corinthians 13:12 Love …11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I set aside childish ways. 12Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love.…
Human courts remind me of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet Dance of the Knights A Kind of stage ballet and who knows what way things will wind up? Justice may come, justice may not. Very like a small war..
