Thanks for sharing Julia. Sorry for any confusion. And Sparrow is correct of course, no matter what you read "Don't be alarmed". I was a little worried last year when I heard the earth had turned 3 degrees off it's axis. A catholic friend of mine said to me "Pat if the earth has turned 3 degrees off it's axis, it's because God wants it to...lol" I felt better of course, because it's true.
Dear Border Collie, what a wonderful idea you have. I was thinking that since this is the Year of Mercy, what we can do in reparation is to share this with others who have lapsed or left the church. Tell them the address of the closest doors of Mercy in their area so that they can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity from Our Lord. I'm old and infirm, but I can contact people, friends, relatives, and even strangers at the grocery store or doctors office and talk about this, then ask our Lord for a grace so that they can avail themselves of this mercy. I was thinking of printing out a flyer, and leaving one wherever I went. Does this sound silly?
Greetings in Jesus sister. I listened to the story of a powerful yet humble nun who serves around the corner from the Clonard Monastery in a wee convent called the Convent of Adoration. She started off life as an air hostess and many other jobs which took her all over the world and into contact with people who she wanted to bring Joy, Hope and Charity to. Finally she decided she'd sit as often as possible before Our Lord Jesus in the Eucharist and pray for the souls of everyone around the world. I asked her why she eventually decided for this. She said "It's the only way I can bring Mercy to everyone, everywhere". I thought, wow, I would never have thought of that, she is so wise surely such wisdom must come from God. God bless you all...
I have copied this from another site. Thought it worth sharing. "Our beloved Papa’s words (last February) “The management of the door requires careful discernment and, at the same time, it must inspire great confidence. I would like to say a word of gratitude to all custodians of doors: Often the prudence and the kindness of the porter are capable of offering an image of humanity and welcome to the whole house, already from the entrance. We must learn from these men and women, who are custodians of places of encounter and welcome of the city of man! To all of you custodians of so many doors, be it doors of habitations, be it doors of churches, thank you so much! But always with a smile, always showing the hospitality of that house.. A door must protect, certainly, but not push away. The door must not be forced, on the contrary, permission must be asked, because hospitality shines in the freedom of a welcome, and it is darkened in the arrogance of invasion. The door says many things about a house. They are thieves who seek to avoid the door. It is curious, thieves always seek to enter another way, by the window, by the roof, but they avoid the door, because they have evil intentions, and they sneak into the sheepfold to deceive the sheep and to take advantage of them..” Pope Francis “Jesus Christ, King and Lord of the Church, in Your presence I renew my unconditional loyalty to Your Vicar on earth, the Pope. In him you have chosen to show us the safe and sure path that we must follow in the midst of confusion, uneasiness, and unrest. I firmly believe that through him You govern, teach and sanctify us; with him as our Shepherd, we form the True Church: One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. Grant me the grace to love, live and spread faithfully our Holy Father’s teachings. Watch over his life, enlighten his mind, strengthen his spirit, defend him from calumny and evil. Calm the erosive winds of infidelity and disobedience. Hear our prayer and keep your Church united around him, firm in its belief and action, that it may truly be the instrument of Your redemption. Amen.” Mother of Mercy, please keep Papa Francis within the folds of Your Mantle!" Blessings of love and peace, dear friends!
He isn't too fond of parish secretaries Joe. In a recent interview he came out with a most extraordinary claim that parish secretaries 'seem like disciples of Satan'. Answering a question from Polish Auxiliary Bishop Leszek Leszkiewicz on whether parishes are still the best way to reach people and on how to build up missionary zeal, the Pope stressed that the parish "is the house of the people of God" and must have its doors wide open to receive people. But he warned: "There are parishes with parish secretaries who seem to be 'disciples of Satan' and scare people; parishes with closed doors," he said. Really? I wonder how many parish secretaries he has met in his life that has given him the right to speak in such a way? Yes, it is possible he was tongue in cheek but if so it betrays an extraordinary lack of sensitivity. I just find it astonishing that he comes out with such things in such a generalised manner. Abortionists - yes - disciples of satan. But I doubt parish secretaries. Just as well they don't have a trade union or they would be up in arms!! Imagine you were a parish secretary hearing this and being labelled in such a way! Many parish secretaries in Ireland do it voluntarily and are not paid. http://cathnews.com/cathnews/26268-pope-parish-secretaries-seem-to-be-like-disciples-of-satan
St Catherine of Siena one time got a letter from a very, very angry Cardinal. He felt she had got out of place by not showing him sufficient respect,to which she replied, 'If your eminence behaves in a way that is worthy of respect, I will show respect ' What the saint and Doctor of the Church was saying was that respect is earned, not a given. This of course is a Universal
Truth and can be applied to Popes just as readily as to Cardinals. So when he behaves in a way worthy of respect..
Appointing a Commision to investigate a commission to investigate the possibility of women Deacons while at the same time saying that there will never be women Deacons does not earn my respect It is like me telling my dogs to sit and stand at the same time. It is olym crazy
Was this your best take? What would you like me to say Garabandal? Jesus called Peter Satan. How insensitive!
Padraig. You know the purpose of the commission. You also know why it has been called for. You are not stupid. Why this deliberate misrepresentation? I leave it to you to make amends.
It wasn't meant to be any take. Just an observation and a comment on what he said. I did not make it up. Just agree Joe for once that what he said in this instance was rather absurd. "There are parishes with parish secretaries who seem to be 'disciples of Satan' and scare people; parishes with closed doors," he said.
Its a common remark made about some receptionists and secretaries who block access to their bosses often to protect them from unwanted attention or to make people wait in line or conform with protocol etc. Doctors surgeries can be the worst. But you know that. Nothing insensitive about it. Good night.
Come on, garabandal, can't you hear the laughter of those who were listening to Pope Francis when he said this? This has tempted me (and I'll probably regret it!) to bring up a recent item on the BBC website about Trump. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I really don't know much about Trump but I always get interested when someone is routinely portayed negatively by the media. The heading of the iteim is 'Get the baby out of here' says Trump at Virginia rally But just watch the video. I found Trump here to be straight, practical and amusing at the same time http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-36962133
Let us keep our perspective. Was Our Lord insensitive when He told Peter to 'Get Behind Me, Satan'? Did Christ mean this literally or was He joking (a barbed one, like all the best jokes)? Our Lord had a sense of humour. It is the real sons of satan, epitomised by the left, with their po-faced political correctness and their media lackeys who lack this quality. Heard any good jokes by feminists or social justice warriors lately?
This thread is called "Time to Take Action" and what I decided to do was purchase several religious items. I posted somewhere on MOG about getting 100 inexpensive rosaries to distribute and I have just received them. I also ordered several items with the St. Faustina's portrait if Jesus. In particular I got a decal for my window, several key chains, small magnets and religious medals. I am very excited.
We will just have to agree to disagree. Even if tongue in cheek I don't think labelling secretaries as 'disciples of satan' is appropriate or funny. Yes, Jesus did say to Peter - get behind me satan. But he did not call him a disciple of satan.
I really would hope that a Pope would have more 'decorum' than a politician such as Trump. But I see I am in a minority who thinks joking about 'disciples of satan' is acceptable for a Pope!
